How to deal with people who want Muslims to apologise for Charlie Hebdo

In the days since the Charlie Hebdo shooting weve witnessed some powerful responses to the attack: from tens of thousands taking to the street in unity rallies to Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg, and from an imam who arrived at the scene of the murders to Private Eye editor Ian Hislop.

LBC presenter James OBrien made his own powerful point about not blaming Muslims for the events in Paris of the last week when he dismantled a caller to his show demanding the Islamic community apologises.

Richard, a caller from Maidenhead, said although a very minority group carried out the terror attacks in the French capital a wider apology was needed.

Heres the transcript of what happened next:

James OBrien: Why should Abbas, the last caller, apologise for what these murderers in Paris did?

Richard: Well because the alternative is that there is no apology.

James OBrien: Have you apologised yet?

Richard: Apologised for what?

James OBrien: The murders in Paris on Wednesday.

Richard: Why would I need to apologise for that?

James OBrien: Why does Abbas? He was in Berkshire.

Richard: Theyre doing it in the name of Islam.

James OBrien: Not his Islam. They might have been doing it in the name of Richards, wouldnt mean it was about you.

If Muslim leaders, all Muslim leaders do not step up to the plate and condemn these actions, then are they not tacitly enabling further attacks? Kudos to those few that did.

Wait - I likes the underpants. Why you including the underpants in this topic ? I don't see how underpants is useful in such a dialog, unless there is real-time swapping of underpants in an open-dialog, face to face.

1. All Muslims are this way, so no need to apologize for being true to themselves.

or

2. Not all Muslims are like this, only a small percentage, and the large percentage of Muslims should disassociate themselves from these blasphemers, condemn them, and apologize for not doing so in the past.

Sort of like this: Some Christians are total haters, so much so I can not in all honesty refer to them as Christians, rather they should all rot in hell, and I apologize for taking so long to say so.

I am glad to hear that only the just because someone is Muslim, they don't need to condemn the act if they did not do it. Agree 100%

So by their logic we can take reparations and apologizes for slavery off the table, since no one living did it. I mean why should we have to apologize for something just cause we are white ?
