Hi! My case is not VAWA, as I have a 2 year conditional green card but I'm a victim of domestic violence and currently separated seeking a divorce.

Well, my question is how do you even begin to build your own life?

I don't even have a California ID, my husband was so controlling that he was purposedly avoiding all things that would make me independent. Like, he freaked out when I got a volunteering job at a local museum and things like that. I know first things first is getting my CA ID but I don't know if I will even be here (at this address) when it gets in the mail.

And then if I want to rent an apartment I don't have any credit!! So that would get my application rejected ASAP.

I've been looking at renting with roomates but then I don't have first and last months rent, deposit, A STEADY JOB!! I don't blame them for not wanting to even give me a chance, it looks so sketchy. And that brings me to the next subject... how to get a job without the experience in this country? and no education, as my -some college- in Mexico is worthless here.

I've looked into going to a shelter but the ONLY dv shelter in this small town is literally a block away!! so my husband would see me going anywhere (school, taking the bus, etc) and I wouldn't feel safe since he is prone to anger outbursts. Then I called another dv shelter in a bigger city but they are at full capacity.

Plus, I would feel bad for taking someone else's place, someone that might be in more danger. Things for me now are calm and we are not talking, he finally accepted his fault and offered to help me while I find a job. But I don't want to live in this small town where everybody knows everybody, I would feel pressured and paranoid to bump into him or his family or friends. I feel like there's nothing left for me here.

So I will continue looking for options, ideally I would like to be out of here in a month or less.

Can you share with me how did you do it? Thanks.

I'm due to remove conditions on Jan 2015. My story start sometime after my wife petitioned for green card. She became controlling, very disrespectful in the house. Anger outburst. If anything doesn't go her way she would tell me she will cancel my green card in a minute and have me deported. We had joint bank accounts did overdrafts for more than 1000 dollors. Summer last year had her friends stay in my house, they would say something and laugh hysterically, addressed me as African. -most of time i would not come home due to treatment at home. When i make african food, put in fringe, she trashed it and tell me that a dog foods. I learned she started doing escorts by her online posting. That when i move out and i could not handle it anymore. She been very threatening, having people call me as immigration agent, and also sending me message that she will rest when i get deported. Also telling me that her uncles will come to my place. I have seen therapist and have all the other printouts for the escorts posting advertising herself on the web, and all deportation text msg and voicemails from ladies pretending to be immigration agent. My questions to Sandra, do i have a abuse case.

Yes, you are being mentally abused. Get out of that situation as soon as possible. Edited by onye uwaoma

Shine bright go to the shelter ,even the one close to your house ,if he sees you just ignore him ,if he tries to talk to you get a restraining order against him. You do not have to live in fear.

When you start working and save a bit, rent a room and little by little start building your life in the U.S.

I am overwhelmed by the number of people that asked my help for VAWA cases since last week ( 17 cases). I can't review all cases.I will select some cases such as women with children, people living in shelters, and then a few other cases.

If you have an attorney I will not help you! Your attorney should review and answer your RFE if you get one.

I will not review I-751 waiver cases anymore.

If you are a victim of mental abuse and you do not have a psychological evaluation then please have a psychological evaluation done before you contact me.

Please do not give my email to other victims without asking me first. Ask the person to join the VAWa thread, and If I decide to help I will exchange email with the person ok.

I gotta question which was crossing through my mind, to those who have kids by their abuser, how do u guys cooperate with that while vawa or aos process is still pending or even in the future, do u guys let the kids see their father?..........

my kids haven't seen their father for almost 1 year, so I was just wondering how others cooperate with that.

.............and im still waiting for my aos interview:))))))

Hmmm... very tough issue to begin with... can you go to court and request a supervised visit for his kids? I hate abuse vehemently...

Hey VJ members....I need your Input on this one. I've been waiting for my AOS Interview (after VAWA Approval) since May 2015 and after getting 2 separate email notifications of my case transfer, In the said month (May), On July 9, 2015 I received an email notification Informing me that a Notice that was sent to my Attorney had to be returned by the PO because they couldn't deliver It. Now, all my correspondences have always been sent and received by my Attorney except for this notice and NO there has not been a change of Address. Can anyone explain what this could mean and what this notice might be about? Thanks In Advance.

Hi Sandranj: I contacted with my washington state senator Maria, New Zealand government tried to give my wife NZ permanent resident since she is my legal wife and her uncle is VP in Microsoft, I think that is good for her, since she has drug issue, NZ has free medical care, I told this to her few months ago, but no reply whatsoever, just keep going with her own drug habit and got her second DUI with 4 charges and 15k dollars fine in Seattle. since all her family members knew her drug habit, no one loan her any money, she is still working but wasting her salary on drug, what for? in Auckland, polica patrol is 24hours on road and helicopter, I cannot say Auckland is absolutely drug free, but very limited, in the next few years, government will put more heavy taxes on tabacco. I really have no idea how to solve my own family problem. drug problem is really something pain in the &^%^.

Yyyang your wife doesn't want to have treatment, why are you wasting your time and USCIS time?

You don't have a VAWA case, you had a failed marriage due her drug addiction.

She puts her family through he'll everyday, why do you want to expose your parents to that? Don't be naive thinking her drug addiction will go away because she will leave in NZ. Google and you will see how many rehabilitation centers NZ has. She will continue her drug addiction where she goes. If she goes to NZ is to have access to your money, she will destroy you and bring so much suffering to your parents. Please for one second stop thinking about her ,and think about your parents, you have no right to change how they live because you can't stop thinking about this woman, it's not about HER anymore. In name of this "sick" love you will destroy your family.Man for God sake seek some help for yourself.
