In a perfect scenario, you are correct indeed. But from my research and the countless threads i have read about it, i can strongly deduce tax receipts/returns are strongly advised to be taken with you, even if you apply via the 5-year rule. You can prove you are a person with good moral standard (pay your debts), you can prove you somewhat haven't been a potential burden of social aids from the government, you can prove address registrations, income, relationship/marital status etc...

I would highly recommend applicants to bring tax documentation with them, regardless of the method they are applying via. I am applying via the 5-year rule, and tax receipts and tax returns are ready and printed in my supporting documentation, for when the time comes for my interview. With immigration, overly prepared on the day never hurts. My opinion though. Good luck to everybody!

Good points and no harm in taking them along, but I'll just say that I've never read about a 5-year applicant being asked for tax transcripts... not even once... unless there was suspicion that the applicant got their green card through a fraudulent marriage.

I'll also say that non-tax debts have no impact whatsoever on establishment of good moral character or on the N400 application.

I'm not sure why you'd need taxes to prove addresses or marital status... marital status is irrelevant in this case and addresses only matter if you want to prove that you weren't living abroad... that's what the passport is for.

If you're approaching this from a "more is better" approach, then I agree with you, but I would say that tax documents are not required for 5 year applicants especially if the didn't get their green cards through marriage. Then again, they're not hard to get, so why not?!

If you meant you only have four of those when going to the IRS website and getting your tax receipts from there, then i ALSO have just 4 of those. For some reason 2011 was not available for printout. What i am planning on doing is getting all those 4 and also i plan on printing out all 5 (for the past 5 years since i am applying via 5-year rule) of my tax returns from TurboTax. Hope this helps!

Hello everyone! I made it, I am recommended for approval! Got to my appointment time 20 minutes early, but didn't get called in until 50 minutes later my appointment (place was busy) IO walked me right to her office, had me swear, went on with the writing and reading tests, she had me read "who lives in the white house?" then had me write my answer "the president lives in the white house" The questions (as far as I can remember) were

1. Who was the first US president?

2. Who is the governor of your state?

3. Name 2 US national holidays

4. What is one promise you make when you become United states citizen?

5. Where is the Statue of Liberty?

Can't remember the last one - Sorry!

So the IO pretty much went through my application, she made some notes because I traveled overseas after I sent the application. I only brought what was requested on the letter (Selective Service letter, ID, Passport, GC). Then I was on my way. the whole thing probably took about 15 minutes, Now I am just waiting for my oath letter!

Hello Everyone! So my father had his interview on Tuesday. He was scheduled for 1:55 PM at Hotsville Long Island Field office. Very far way for someone living in Queens. 26 Federal Plaza should have been the best option. However, we got there around 1:10 and checked in after like 10-15 minutes he was called in. The officer went over some documents with him and told him he needed to bring some supporting documents that stated anything about child support. My parents are not legally divorce they just separated and live in different residences. The IO asked for a notarized letter after my father said he pays no child support just gives cash in support of his children. Anyways onto his interview.

He was asked

1. How many Supreme Court justices are there.

2. What is the supreme law of the land.

3. What day do we celebrate Independence Day.

4. What is an amendment ?

5. Name two U.S. National holidays

6. How many U.S. Senators are there?

After he passed the first six the IO went on to the reading and writing.

He was asked to read what is the capital of the United States. And has to write Columbus Day is in October.

After passing all parts, the io gave him a form that had the additional documents needed. We got them and went back to Long Island the next morning and handed it to the same IO personally. He said to be out for an oath letter in couple weeks but on the results page did not check off A. congratulations... Or B. A decision cannot be made but did say to me he would recommend my father for approval.

I had my interview on the 4th and everything went great! My only complain is that I waited for 2.5 hours for what seemed like a 15 min interview. I took so much evidence, all my tax returns, all my passports since I was a child (5 to be exact), and so much other stuff only to be asked for just my appointment letter & my green card.

In the end, I was recommended for approval. Now to wait for the oath letter!

Nothing to updated until the day you receive your interview notice in the mail! Let us know when you get it.

Can somebody tell me what to do here? I have been in line since March, It been 3 months and nothing from my local office. ( Portland Or). How can i get an info pass when there is no option to choose from?
