Everyone keeps talking about how fast the AOS goes when they are transfered to California. What if you live in CA and are not transfered in? Are they still going fast? I'm trying to decide if we should file for the AP and EAD or just send in the AOS. We don't need either of the other documents for 4 -6 months and it looks like the AOS is going that fast.

Generally it doesn't take too long if you file with CSC to begin with, assuming everything goes smothly. I had no RFE's for mine and I was approved for AOS after 5 months. My son had an RFE for another medical and was approved after 6 months. If you look at the current times on the USCIS website they show that they are currently reviewing applications from July 2006.

https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/jsps/Proc...nter=California

SO you could say compared to other service centers, that CSC is pretty quick.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, did not get transferred to the CSC, and it took 3 months for me to get my EAD (just received it today! :) ). I had my AOS interview yesterday... so if everything goes well, I should be getting my Green Card in a couple of weeks.

Was the EAD application worth it? Well... if I'd known the exact dates of everything beforehand, no. But no one knows for certain what will happen with your applications, so applying for AP/EAD can set your mind at ease somewhat until you get your Green Card.

It's your call. Some people get transferred and some don't. Some get transferred and still wait a long time.

We live in California, did not get transferred here. Actually when I looked to see how many Californian's got transferred to CSC I only found one on this site (I may have overlooked some). Our NOA1 was November 12, 2006, no RFE's for us, just got EAD card today and interview is March 6. We didn't file for AP, tried to save money somewhere, but felt EAD was important and now we have it a month before the interview, which is money earned. But alas it's your call.

May 8, 2006 - sent 129F

May 9, 2006 - USCIS rec'd 129F

May 19, 2006 - NOA1 rec'd in mail

June 30, 2006 - RFE delivered at CSC at 7:46am signed by J Arnett

Transfer to CSC when you live in California does not guarantee you a speedy approval.

If it did, I wouldn't still be waiting...

Just curious how you know that because the website says:

I-751 Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence - Removal of permanent residence conditions (Spouses of US citizens and lawful permanent Residents) - July 17, 2006

Not trying to be argumentative just wondering how you came by that information

all is filed with Chicago and its up to them to transfer you to CSC, AFAIK you cannot filed with CSC "to begin with"

Also - this is not the same as filing for the visa where VSC, NSC, CSC, TSC... there is Missouri (NBC) and those who are LUCKY get transferred to CSC.

My 2 friends, (one from Tennessee the other from kentucky) their cases were forwarded to CA. The first one already got her Greencard in a span of 1MONTH AND A HALF!! :o The one from kentucky, well, i'm assuming she'll undergo the same thing. But I, on the other hand, didn't receive any notice that my case is being forwarded to anywhere. Instead, I got a notice for interview this march. I live in Cali by the way. I live in the Bay Area too, and my case isn't forwarded anywhere... I got an interview date for AOS this MArch.. So I'm guessing we'll have the same timeframe. At least now I know when to expect my EAD.. which is kinda not worth it eh...

It probably depends upon your needs but everyone's experience is a little different. We applied for my wife in February 2006 for AOS, EAD & AP. The EAD and AP arrived in the first week of May, we had the interview at the end of May. They confiscated my wife's EAD at the interview and she received the green card two weeks later in June.

We have applied for her son's AOS in the end of November 2006. His biometrics was just before Christmas and his interview is scheduled for March 14th.

Draw your own conclusion. I don't recommend EAD now but AP might still be worth it in case of a really long delay.
