You didn't mention the cost of corruption in your assessment. You also left off once weekly visits to the cat house.

Also, if you get mixed up with one of these girls and marry one, her family will be expecting you foot the bill for things they could never have afforded before you came into the picture, with your wallet full of US dollars.

Haha. Well, for sure China has got a lot of corruption going on. But, in typical day to day life one need not be involved in that. Paying a little extra for something gets you more. They don't have the problem of excessive regulations there, which has it's pros and cons.

If you're a white foreigner in China, there is no need to visit the cat house. They actually chase you down the street and offer it up for free. Of course, they want to stay with you and get your promise of marriage and a trip to the US.

Well if that's the case, I gotta ask why you got married?

I love when people come to America only to compose nonsensical odes to the communist third-world countries from which they fled for dear life, to begin with. Perhaps from a distance the gulag looks warm and cozy. Well done!

The charts and graphs posted that try to sell Americans as not only being rich, but being far "richer" than Chinese can make scratchy toilet paper; nothing more. Why:

1. You don't need a car to live in China. Public transportation is inexpensive and available in nearly every corner of the country. A tremendous savings for anyone working there. Unlike the US, Chinese don't buy cars because they need them to get to work, the store, or anywhere else, they buy them to impress their friends in the same manner that Americans buy houses with way more square footage than needed, granite counter tops, and so on.

2. To buy a house in China is way too expensive. That's why they bring their money here to the US to buy your house.

3. To rent a fully furnished apartment in China is about one-third of that in the US. For example, my fully furnished two bedroom apartment was 2000 RMB per month (about $325 USD). Electricity: about $65 USD per month during the hot summer. The furnishings included: New beds, 2 TVs, Sofa, coffee and end tables, lamps, washing machine.

4. Food costs. To buy food at the market is close to the same prices as those of the US. However, a typical restaurant is less than half of that of the US. A bill for two people runs from: 40RMB - 100RMB ($6.50 - $16.25). Yes, you can find and pay a lot more, but these are averages for most cities.

5. Fine clothing in China may cost a little more than it does in the US. There are however plenty of knockoffs available at rock bottom prices.

In the end, it costs a lot less to live in China than the US. My income in China was about 25% less than it was in the US. However, my cash flow was at least 55% greater at the end of the month.

Yes, there are lots of poor in China, but their culture does not support the lazy. There are no hand out lines for free stuff. People do what they must to provide for themselves and their families.

That would be a good thing. After all in China everyone works for the government and they are, as we all know, #1!

That's a good question. Well, since the US is now number two, and Obama says none of us built a goddamned thing, it appears that we are all number two and work for him.

For all the bleeding heart bullshit that you feign even more than your party, one would think progs would look at people as being people. You prove without doubt what a narrow minded across the bow shot like that just what pea-brain you actually are.

On a lower level it reminds me of Newfoundlanders in Canada who will wax poetically about missing home, yet they never go back there once they hit the mainland

You know, once upon a time people would travel to the US and never go back from whence they came. These days, people can travel at will, and go back to visit and return. Make no mistake, there are pros and cons between China and the US. I've mentioned several of them within this thread. After weighing them, we decided the US had more to offer than China. But, to be sure, China is NOT the horrific environment the left-wing nuts preach today.

IMHO, that stems from resentment for all the opportunities America affords them; every day of their lives, being a reminder of the life they could never dream of having in their own home countries.

America has a lot more opportunity for just about everyone in the world. I have never disputed that in this thread or ever. But, keep in mind that considering China as an incapable communist country that has nothing more than third world life to offer is, well, it's just naive.

Get back to me in 20 years. A country where no one is responsible for their own actions is unsustainable.

Welcome to America where it's never YOUR fault.

Historically, all empires have collapsed from military over-extension which results in either fiscal collapse or outright military defeat. As with the Soviet Union, these empire collapses happen in the blink of an eye on the scale of history.

If the current growth differential continues, China will have twice our GDP in about 20 years, and four times our GDP in under 40 years. While we continue to wage war and support bases all over the world, they are investing in mines, manufacturing, putting out massive numbers of PhD scientists etc. - it is hubris to think being King of the Hill is some permanent residency no matter how corrupt, stupid, and war-making you get.

The U.S. is no different from the Master Race hubris of the Third Reich - the "Thousand Year" Reich, lol. We call it American Exceptionalism. In the long run being 25th in math, 28th in science, and non-English countries being ahead of us in English proficiency - it is going to get worse before it gets better.

When enough of the world is sick and tired of our drones dropping bombs on their wedding parties, funerals, and council meetings they will combine against us and do the same: they will send drones upon us. They are getting pretty inexpensive and you don't have to drop much of a bomb to take out an oil refinery or natural gas pipeline.

Well, China has been investing into its infrastructure for some time and a healthy growth of the economy goes hand-in-hand with that. The US did that back in the middle of the last century, too. And then we decided that cutting taxes was more important. And so the slide down that hill began. Infrastructure investment is all but over and the economy can't get a foothold anymore. What's most amusing is that the same folks that seem to admire China's ascent support the very policies that cement America's descent.
