help clarify if I need to get ss twice (before and after marriage) or just get new passport instead

Hi guys

So she arrives on thanksgiving day and I was all set on getting her social security the first business day. This of course would have her maiden name. In her case she actually just has one name in the passport. "Priyanka". I was told rather than first getting a social security card and wait for it in the mail, get married and based of that get a new Indian passport with "Priyanka 'husband last name'". Use the passport to get only on ss and apply for all the paperwork - EAD, 765 etc.

My question is, is this okay to do or not. It does save us time, but what are the risks and if you have experienced it first hand. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

To be clear she is coming on her k1

You only have one social security number for all your life. Once assigned it is yours forever , you update the records and get a new card if you change your name

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
