Then you'll definitely be fine. Just make sure you have proof coming from 2 seperate sources when you apply for an ID/DL, like letters from the government - as you mentioned - and your bank, for example.

I think it can't hurt to have a state ID. It makes some things so much easier. Particularly after your petition for naturalization has been approved, you won't have to carry around your green card anymore but can use your state ID instead.

Just remember, they'll ask for a lot of other stuff besides what's on the yellow letter. Don't make the same mistake we did! Make sure you bring proof of your commingled finances (shared bank statements, IRS forms, etc.) as well as proof of joint residency (leases/mortgage) over the last 3 years. They asked us for all of that stuff but had no interest in what was on our letter. Very annoying.

You won't need it for your interview as long as you can bring in multiple pieces of evidence of your residence and proof of your identity (you'll already be bringing your passport with you).

But it's probably a really good idea to get a State ID. It's cheap proof of identity that's pretty easy to replace compared to a green card.

When you're a citizen and you want to vote or travel (domestically) you can use it instead of carrying around your passport.

Def going to do that. We have 2 kids, though they're pretty good evidence. But I'll rather be over prepared than under prepared.

Oh kids alone are never sufficient evidence for USCIS! I once read a story from an Australian/American couple being asked for more evidence that they met in person for their initial K-1 petition, as their child's birth certificate wasn't enough haha.
