Questions! We're lost!

We started the entire I-130 Process last January and it had been approved sometime around June or July. I received an e-mail asking me to pay a $88 Affidavit of Support Processing Fee, and a $230 Immigrant Visa Application Processing Fee. Since then there has been many changes in our lives so I am afraid we may be stuck. On the bottom of one of the forms it says as long as we maintain communications within 1 year of the previous communications that the current application and paperwork will remain valid.

In July I left my job and moved to Macau with my wife and child. Because of the havoc being wreaked in Hong Kong, and knowing the situation here in Macau, we've decided it would be better for us to move back to the US. My wife (A Portuguese passport holder) has no way to stay in the us except the basic 3 month at a time visit if I am not mistaken. Anyway, that is something we can handle. What I fear is that the next step requires me to submit tax returns and proof of income for at least two months. I could have done that in July, but now it's much to late. We've been living out of my savings without any problem since then, with my wife working full time here. If I don't have a job, are they going to reject me? Is there a certain amount of money that I need in my account for them to "overlook" my current job status?

In January, either myself, or all of us will be back in the US. Whether or not they get to stay, I'm not sure yet, but it looks grim. The most important thing is knowing what I need to do to keep the process going from here on out with minimum bumps.

Since these forums are always full of great advice, I look forward to receiving some for myself.

Can you get a joint sponsor living in the US?

That's a rather awkward thing for us to do. We can, but we would rather not.

What status does the co-sponsor need, out of curiosity? Do they need to be related?

A joint sponsor would need to meet the poverty guidelines in order to qualify. Sponsors and joint sponsors do not need to be related.

So if I have $3 million USD in the bank but don't make a taxable $24,737 annual income, I can't qualify?

You can use your assets (3mil$)to qualify

For you, wife and a child you need abot $74k (three times of 125% poverty guidelines)
