Where will AOS Interview be if my husband came to Michigan on K1??

I live in Michigan. My husband came here from Rio de Janeiro on a K1 Visa. We've applied for the AOS. The nearest USCIS office is in Detroit. This is where he has to go for the Biometrics appointment. I've had people tell me that if we have to go to an interview, it will be in Chicago. I've had others say it will be in Detroit. Detroit is an hour away and Chicago is 6 so Detroit is definitely what I am hoping for but we want to be sure to be prepared if we have to plan a quick trip so can anyone clear this up? Has anyone from Michigan had their AOS interview in Detroit after arriving on a K1 Visa? Also, has anyone had no interview at all? I was told that in some cases, since there was an interview at the Embassy in Rio for his K1 Visa that they don't even require an interview. What is everyone's experience on this?

Enter your zip code into https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=offices.type&OfficeLocator.office_type=LO and it will tell you which local office has jurisdiction over your place of residence, which will be where your interview will be held, if you have one.

I highly doubt that they would make you drive to Chicago if there is an office in Detroit. They have one in pretty much every major city.

Most of the Brazil K-1 couples that I've been in touch with have gotten potential interview waiver letters during the AOS process (we did as well). Apparently the thought is that the investigation of the relationship and interview were previously done at the consulate. This is good because you may not have to go through an interview in the U.S., but apparently it often slows down the timing on actually receiving the provisional green card. So if having the green card in hand as soon as possible is very important to you, then you may hope that you get an interview instead. In any event, good luck!

Thanks! Travel authorization would be nice. His mother passed away on Saturday and we couldn't be there. The green card is the least important right now.

Also, does this put travel authorization and work authorization on hold? I really hope he can visit his dad soon. His dad isn't going to be able to keep the apartment on Rio because it is huge and he's alone now since his moms passing on Saturday. He is hoping to help him get things sorted. I hope this is just something simple and that it only affects the AOS. We have to be at the USCIS for biometrics on Monday. I doubt they will have answers but we will ask.

You should be able to apply for AP under emergency circumstances. I remember hearing about some people who did on this forum.

I think you can still get the EAD/AP even if you receive an RFE for the AOS, because the EAD/AP is based on the pending AOS, but I'm not 100% on that. I recollect that many times people get the EAD/AP and receive an RFE after that, I don't know how it works if you receive an RFE before getting the EAD/AP.

An RFE prior to the issuance of the EAD or AP pauses all of the applications.
