Soft on felons....Armed robbery should be locked up for life. If you shoot someone during an armed robbery . they should swing....After convicted in a court of law of course.

This happened in the rochester area a few years ago.

In apparent ambush, William Spengler, 62, allegedly guns down four volunteer firefighters, killing two while crew battles Webster, N.Y., Christmas Eve house blaze

Firefighters unwittingly stumbled into the deadly ambush set by William Spengler, 62, an ex-con who beat his 92-year-old grandmother to death with a hammer in 1980, said Gerald Pickering, the police chief in the suburban town of Webster.

This crazy pushed his grandmother down the basement stairs and beat her to death with a hammer.

Liberals put these crazies back on the streets . He should have swung by the neck..But blame the gun.

The US incarcerates a higher percentage of the population for longer than any other 'civilized' country and you say it's 'soft on felons'? What do you suppose is happening out there in other 'civilized' countries that don't have these numbers of incarcerated and don't use capital punishment? If we were to believe your reality, these places would be bedlam, but, they are not. How do you explain that?

I don't disagree with you that the US has more felons who can get guns, and that it's due to the many guns available in the US (though technically you produced no evidence, you just made a statement).

What i am saying is that in ANY country, anyone can easily obtain a gun, if he/she wants one. Heck, I bought one on the street in Korea once. Think guns are readily available there?

According to your theory, apparently so, but you haven't produced any evidence that this is true, and I can surmise, based on numbers of criminals committing crimes with guns in other 'civilized' countries that for some reason your theory is wrong. That's either because for some reason the felons don't want a gun to commit their felonies perhaps they are too civilized and don't feel it's fair to commit a felony with a gun when the civilian population are for the most part unarmed? Or perhaps you are wrong and it's actually quite hard to get guns in some countries (notably European countries) regardless of whether you want to purchase it from an illegal source or steal it from someone else.

He should have been hung by the neck until dead

This Spengler beat his grandmother to death(60 blows) with a hammer. If he had swung like he should have the firefighters would be alive today. Liberals in NY state let him out to kill again and kill he did... This killing was mentioned and used as an example in writing the NY safe act.

NY Firemen Tell Cuomo To Stop Using Them as Excuse for Gun Grabbing

Firemen in West Webster, New York are sick and tired of Governor Andrew Cuomo using them as an excuse for his unconstitutional gun grabbing.

One of the main excuses New York Governor Cuomo used to institute his latest anti-Second Amendment law, the so-called SAFE Act, was the attack suffered by firemen in West Webster. In 2012 as they responded to a fire two firemen were killed by a nut case with a gun.

On Christmas Eve in 2012, a criminal named William H. Spengler allegedly set a fire then laid in wait for firemen to arrive whereupon he began shooting at them. Two were killed in the ambush.

The psycho eventually killed himself but not before 8 nearby homes were destroyed by fire because firefighters were prevented from combating the flames due to the man’s gunfire.

When pushing and later signing his anti-Second Amendment state law, Gov. Cuomo constantly used the incident as an excuse for his gun grabbing law.

In a press release to celebrate his signing of the anti-constitutional SAFE Act, Cuomo cited the 2012 West Webster incident saying, “It is appropriate to sign the NY SAFE Act here in Rochester, where just weeks ago a gunman senselessly murdered two first responders as they responded to a fire in Webster,” Governor Cuomo said. “This new law will limit gun violence through common sense, reasonable reforms that will make New York a safer place to live. When society confronts serious issues, it is the function of government to do something, and the NY SAFE Act will now give New York State the toughest, strongest protections against gun violence in the nation.”

But now the chief of the very fire department that Cuomo uses as his excuse for gun grabbing has said explicitly that he’s tired of being used by the governor.

Craig Akins, a former chief of the West Webster department said that the governor’s politicization of his fellows’ loss is not Kosher. “The governor took it upon himself to use us as a pawn and I think most of us are not very happy about that,” he said.

Another W. Webster firefighter, Steve Sessler is equal upset by it all. “To try and capitalize to push an agenda, especially for a politically ambitious governor, who is looking at the presidency. That doesn’t sit well with me,” he said.

Further, Sessler said that the SAFE Act is doing nothing to make him feel any safer.

“Not at all, not at all, not at all. No, in fact, the SAFE Act ironically named doesn’t make anybody any safer. In my opinion, the events of Christmas even last year, definitely changes your mind as a first responder. In fact, in Honeoye Falls, about three weeks after that incident last year, we had a call for a shooting and that was the first thing to go through my mind”

Chief Akins also points out that one of the firefighters who was murdered was a Second Amendment advocate and would not be happy that his legacy is being used to destroy Constitutional rights.

“It is hurtful to use because one of the victims was a huge advocate, a big gun advocate, and I know he wouldn’t be happy right now knowing that these laws were enacted because of anything he had involvement with,” he said.

You're still missing the point, LIB. No, I am not surprised about that. Anyway, the point is that all other developed countries are much, much softer on killers and yet, they don't have the kind of homicide bonanza going on that we have going on here. Following your logic, living in those countries should be much more dangerous. But it isn't. The opposite is the case. Your theory is garbage.

Sorry Dave, not true in Japan. It's hard as ** to obtain a firearm over there.

To get a gun in Japan, first, you have to attend an all-day class and pass a written test, which are held only once per month. You also must take and pass a shooting range class. Then, head over to a hospital for a mental test and drug test (Japan is unusual in that potential gun owners must affirmatively prove their mental fitness), which you'll file with the police. Finally, pass a rigorous background check for any criminal record or association with criminal or extremist groups, and you will be the proud new owner of your shotgun or air rifle. Just don't forget to provide police with documentation on the specific location of the gun in your home, as well as the ammo, both of which must be locked and stored separately. And remember to have the police inspect the gun once per year and to re-take the class and exam every three years.

I get it now. The other developed countries have the luxury of not having all that many black folk and it is for that reason that they're not crime ridden despite a rather soft justice system. Does that sum it up there for you, LIB? Is that what you've been hurting to say?

Nothing wrong with that. It might be inconvenient (compared to what we are used to now), but that is the sort of gun control I could get behind. Mental health is a great checkpoint. Unfortunately, it wouldn't stop incidents such as Sandy Hook, since the guns used didn't even belong to the shooter. As with all laws, there are ways around them. And folks who truly WANT guns will get them, by hook or by crook.

Another thing that is severely lacking in gun control is the lack of tracking (as in ZERO) of subsequent sales. Even taking straw sales out of the pic, there are way too many guns not registered to their current owners.

(P.S. I was making up the Korea story, to see if anyone would jump on it. In 4 years over there, I never saw a gun except on a military person. They are out there, I know, but POW ownership is very low in Korea, much like Japan.)
