I booked a trip to the states in October thinking that our NOA2 wouldn't arrive until like December at the earliest, from looking at processing times I thought they were still months behind us. But today my fianceé texted me out of the blue saying the NOA2 had arrived. I'm kind of in shock, it's less than a month until I'm supposed to go and visit (October 10th) and now I'm supposed to be doing my interview within the next month apparently. We haven't been able to look over the letter yet because it arrived while my fianceé was at work, she is still at work as I write this.

Is there any form I could file or something I could submit to ask to do my interview in the states while I am with her? Or is there some way to suspend the process until I arrive back to England in January? What should I do? Halp guise. I really don't want to cancel my trip to see her but I might have to now if I'm supposed to be getting started on the visa process? I don't know what to do and I'm kind of frantic right now.

Is there any form I could file or something I could submit to ask to do my interview in the states while I am with her? No, the interview will be done at an overseas US embassy/consulate There are NO US Embassies/consulates in the US. Or is there some way to suspend the process until I arrive back to England in January?Contact the London embassy. What should I do? Halp guise. Read the links provided, check out the UK Regional Forum. Remember, this whole immigration process is on their timeline, not yours. To attempt to do otherwise is an exercise in futility.

Welcome to the forum.

Congratulations on getting your visa petition approved (NOA2). It sounds like you need to do some quick reading up on the the process. Here are a couple of good links to start with:

There are no US Embassies in the US...only in foreign countries.

Or is there some way to suspend the process until I arrive back to England in January? What should I do?

Email the Embassy and inquire. I'm sure you can delay the interview to a later date, many folks do that.

Halp guise. I really don't want to cancel my trip to see her but I might have to now if I'm supposed to be getting started on the visa process?

Isn't the critical path for you to enter the US so you two can marry and live together? Seems strange that one would be nervous about something you two have worked hard together to accomplish.

It doesn't happen that fast, ie interview in one month. More like 2.5-3 month (London specific) if you are efficient with your paperwork and actually in the UK, not on holiday.

This guide lays out the London K1 process which is different than other countries. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/474161-london-k1-a-complete-guide/

Post 1 lists things you can do before you leave and things your fiancé can work on before you come back.

Post 2 explains what happens after NOA2

Post 4 explains the three things that have to happen before London will even consider you for interview. Delay any of them until January and you stall your case. No problem with stalling.

OP, you will likely have to cancel your trip to take care of the actual Visa application, process, & requirements. You can do nothing you need to get done in America.

Not really. He can easily stall the process in London. He won't get the visa as early as if he pushed on through, but that's his choice. He has a few weeks to get his documents lined up...like police certificate, shot record, birth certificate. Get on that TOMORROW, Capt British.

The London process requires 3 things to get assigned an interview.

1. Online application DS-160

2. Online form indicating readiness for interview.

3. Medical results received by Embassy.

He can do #1 and #2 from anywhere in the world. He can call from the US and book his medical for January once London gets his case. He will know when that is by using the CEAC status check. He can get his new case number (to check his CEAC status) by phoning NVC. When he returns, he goes to the medical in London then waits a few weeks to be assigned an interview.

There are definitely things you can do to stall. Does London let you set your own interview? That would help.

And if you got NOA2 today, you still have awhile before it actually arrives and is processed in London. We're already halfway through September, you should be fine.

I wouldn't cancel your trip--unless you want to.Some airlines let you move your itinerary for a fee (maybe $250?), so if you want, you can probably call them and ask to push your ticket back to maybe December or so and use it for your POE. Then you'd have to cancel your ticket back home, but if you're looking to save a buck, this might be an option. One way can be just as expensive as round trip. Just a thought.

Good luck :)

Okay I think I understand a bit more now, thank you for all the help and links. All of this has kind of taken me by surprise as I thought we had months until the NOA2 arrived. I'm kind of on my own in figuring all this out right now. I haven't even seen the NOA2 yet as my fianceé is still at work, I just know that it arrived and have no idea what it actually says or anything.

So, and I apologize if I am asking you to re-iterate something you have already said, tomorrow I should get all of my required documents ready and when I receive my new London case number I should contact them and ask to have the process suspended until January? Or should I just wait a few months before filing the DS-160 and the readiness form? That won't cause any sort of backlash, would it? I realize that it would mean getting the Visa a bit later, but I am prepared for that. Both my fianceé and I really need this trip in October, I'm sure you can all understand how we feel.

Whoops I just noticed the January bit, lol. If I were you, I'd try to change the itinerary. It seems silly to go visit just to fly back home and re-enter after an interview. :P

OP, we're in the same spot! We got our NOA2 last week and had a couple of months ago I booked a flight to visit Gloria on October 10th thinking we would get the NOA2 later on. haha, don't trip though, we still need to wait so that it gets to NVC, shipped over to your consulate/embassy and THEN the medical and interview, I think we have plenty of time.

Yours is a good "problem" to have. I am guessing you were one of the lucky ones to get transferred to CSC last month. Anyway, I believe you have 4 months after NOA2 to get the process completed but it can be extended. I am not certain of that so check up on it as I have no NOA2 experience yet :(. You can take care of quite a bit while you are here as others have stated but I must ask.....why on earth would you want to delay what is so difficult to come by (Visa)? Forget this trip and bust your tail to get everything done to complete the Visa process and come over for good 2-3 months later. This will also save you money on a second ticket. Surely you can wait a little bit?

London will not assign you an interview date until they get your medical results, it doesn't matter if you submit your readiness form. Stall your medical examination (have it booked for after your trip) and you're sorted.

while it is a nice problem to have I would suggest you either drag your feet and doing your paperwork to respond to everything, which means it would take longer to get the K! visa. and go ahead and make the rip, when you make the trip bring just as much luggage as you can with the maximum amount of luggage to the maximum amount of weight and leave it all with your fiancée and return home with just the clothes on your back. this will save you some time expense later in shipping.

2 contact the airlines corporate and ask them for help, tell the situation and see if you can switch your ticket to a later date without penalty, this will save you the cost of an airline ticket but not flying now then using later. problem being the airline may want you to set a firm date in the future so you will have really do your research and you may not get your visa until just days before your future flight or you may get the visa a month or even two before the future flight.

sorry I do not have answer to your question and only more to think about, but these are things to think about while making your decision.
