Dual citizenship

Hello,

I want an answer from people that went to interview already.

Well,I had my interview but I was so nervous and I don't remember if the officer asked me to renounce to my citizenship or not. Because I want to have dual citizenship. So my question is when(and if) do you they ask that? Thank you

It doesn't look like you have to renounce your other citizenship but I believe it is country dependent.

Correct, the US doesn't care, but the other country might.

I don't know how old that list is, but there is at least one inaccuracy. Czech Republic allows dual citizenship.

While you will renounce allegiance to all other nationalities during the Oath Ceremony, it is not the US' right to take away another country's citizenship - only that country can do so. So, if your country of citizenship allows its citizens to hold citizenship in other countries at the same time, you probably don't need to do anything - you are automatically a citizen of both your own country and the US, in spite of what the words to the Oath say. You just need to remember that for the US, you are only an American citizen. They do not officially recognize dual citizenship but pragmatically recognize that they can't do much about it if another country still honours your citizenship with them.

Some foreign countries do require you to do some action in order to retain your citizenship when you also become the citizen of another country, so you really need to check your home country's stand on holding dual citizenship.

OP... As Katheryn said... You will be told and take the oath to renounce all ther citizenships, it the USA cannot force you to renounce anything with any foreign government... But while in the USA you are ONLY considered as a citizen of the USA regardless of how many passports you hold... As long as your country allow you to hold dual citizenship then you are fine...

No need to renounce anything. But people need to check with their government. E.g. German nationals need to apply before with good reasons why they need to keep their german citizenship and absolutely need the U.S. one - sometimes applications are getting declined.

Anyway dual citizenship is great, esp. for EU nationals and opens a whole lot job opportunities.
