Hi! I just sent in my I-485 package (Canadian on F1 Status, AOS through spouse), and this forum's advice was helpful in preparing that.

Unfortunately, I have a family emergency and I'm headed back to Canada for a few days. That means that conceivably, my "most recent I-94" may change before they start processing my forms.

Will this cause issues?

If you leave the US your AOS case will be abandoned formally, you will lose $1070, and you will be stuck outside the US. Once you apply for AOS you are not able to move freely.

Thank goodness that you let me know, that would certainly aggravate an already difficult time.

I see that there's a form for 'advance parole' to attend a relative's funeral, does anybody have any experience with it? It doesn't look timely enough to ever be filed in time to make it to a funeral.

If you have filed your AOS already, you can make an infopass appointment at your local USCIS office and request an emergency Advance Parole. No guarantee you get it, though. Good luck.

Just wanted to add some visa categories can move freely in and out of the US even after filing AOS. Those are the dual intent visas, such as L1, H1, O1 and E visas.

Yes, but this is not relevant to the OP. I was answering her question, not making a statement about everyone.
