Hi all,

We got the NOA2 approved notification one week ago. But I do have a question regarding this approval. My fiancee is currently with me here in the United States. She is visiting for one more month with her tourist Visa. I know the next step is the interview in her country, but I am not sure weather she being here can cause any issue. I mean, I am not sure if the consulate will be sending her a mail notification or will call her to schedule the interview and all do the medical process within the month of July.August. I tried calling Immigration Services and they told me they are no handling the case anymore, so I call the National Visa Center but apparently it is always a busy line. She is from Colombia, by the way.

Thanks for the help.

Usually after the US embassy received I-129F approval package from NVC, they will send email to a petitioner and confirmed to update information of his/her beneficiary. From that point, you can started make a plan ahead.

This is a link on VJ regarding the US embassy in Bogota. You can learn the next steps for K-1 visa. Good luck.

The K1 Visa process will go much faster at this point. Although I have read some tragic posts of people waiting months for NVC to process and some still waiting for interviews. I was almost thrown aback by the notifications we received one right after another from USCIS and NVC. I can tell you the embassies do not seem to notify very well. This is how ours went. We received a text message from USCIS our case had been updated on 6/11/ 2014. We received an email at the same time with details we then checked the USCIS website. We were approved. On 6/17/2014 we received another text message from USCIS that our case had been updated again. Email stated that our case was sent to NVC. We received a hard copy of the NOA2 a week or so after the 17th. As far as calling the NVC you just need redial the number repeatedly until you get through. Eventually they will answer and put you on hold about 30 minutes or so. Wait for the person to answer they will be much more pleasant then the people at the USCIS. They will give you a time frame for processing at NVC. Call back after the date and you will get a case number. I believe I called on July 1, 2014 and they told me NVC received the petition on 6/26/2014. They assigned a case number the same day and shipped the case to the Embassy on 7/1/2014 the same day I called. We got a hard copy from the NVC concerning our assigned case on 7/7/2014. Checked the delivery of the case file on DHL as described in VJ. Our case was actually received at the embassy on 7/3/2014 but the embassy acknowledged receipt on 7/8/2014. When you get your case number from NVC you can check the status on CEAC for Delivery. When it says ready that means the embassy acknowledges receipt. You can email them right away as I did only to be told that we would receive notification via mail for our interview. Please Please don't believe them. 2 weeks later email them again letting them know that you ask for the information 2 weeks ago and have yet to receive a letter. Ask for an electronic version of the documents including a copy of the letter for the interview. After emailing them on 7/23/2014 they sent us an electronic version the very same day. We have yet to receive our hard copies in the mail and have a confirmed interview date from the embassy via email on 8/11/2014. Your fiancee will have to go back to gather all the required documents for the US consulate in her native country. Not all are the same. I hope this helps you make some good decisions.

I don't know how your embassy is handling things...

In our case (in China), it was only 18 days between NOA2 and when fiancee received packet 3 by express mail,

so if your packet 3 is similar to my timing (though there is no consistent timing on this),

it should be close to the time that your fiancee returns to her country.

And after about 12 days after she sent in packet 3 response,

we received packet 4 in email.

We can't control the speed at how fast they will process, but you can speed it up

by getting as much required documents for both petitioner and beneficiary prepared and ready to go.

We thought we were well prepared, but we probably lost about a week because

we didn't know ahead of time that foreign country

police certificate was necessary where she had lived for 5 years.

So its good to read through packet 3 and packet 4 requirements thoroughly ASAP.

My case has been at NVC for 3 weeks now and I still havent heard anything... I keep reading all these posts of people's cases getting forwarded to their embassy in a week or even less, so i'm getting nervious. Does anyone know what they actually DO at NVC? Do they have the ability to deny a case or is their job just to assign case numbers?...

I'm in the same boat as bunnithunder except our NOA2 was approved on July 8th and USCIS hasn't even been updated to say that it's been shipped to the NVC yet. That means that for our petition the clock hasn't even started running for the NVC processing times. So judging by the timelines I've been looking at NVC seems to be taking longer than it was even a month ago. But it's still a judgment call on your part

K-1 from Haiti - NOA1: 5/27/2014; NOA2: 7/8 USCIS never updated to say that it was sent to the NVC (just in case you're as concerned about your status not updating as I was about mine)

My fiancé (petitioner) was in sydney when we received an email from the embassy on 2 July advising my interview date for 15 July. But in the email, they said I can still attend to my interview even if I don't have all documents with me and I only have 5 days to reschedule the date if need be. It was way too soon for me to get everything done but I was able to arranged my med exam for 11 July. After 4 days later I emailed them to reschedule it for the 29th July. They reply after a couple of days later and approved it. The mistake we made is that after finding out about my interview date we didn't prepare the affidavit of support and letter of intent right away so my fiancé can sign those while he was still in sydney. By the time I prepare everything he was already back in the US. So he had to mail everything by express post including his form and letter of intent. I only had over 3 weeks to get everything done.

When u get the actual email from the embassy about your interview you can reschedule it and explain to them your situation. But having her there won't be an issue at all. Just make sure as soon as u get notified by the embassy u must arrange your med exam ASAP, they'll ask for your case number so that's why u have to wait til u receive the email from the embassy. That's the most important thing and while she's there u should fill out your affidavit of form, sign the letter of intent and start collecting the supporting documents so when your fiancée goes home she can take everything with her. And while she's there she should request her police clearance in Columbia, if she can do this online she should do it now. I did mine online. When we got the first email from the embassy they didn't include my case number because they also sent us a letter with my case number and receip date etc in it and sent it to my fiancé's address in the US but we didn't get this on time because my fiancé was still in sydney at the time. So if this happens to you too, first thing u have to do is to email them and ask for your case number after they give u the interview date. Don't call the us embassy as it's nt in tier hands anymore. U have to call the us consulate in Columbia. U need to hve your case number whenever u email the consulate, when u arrange a med exam, fill out the ds160 and also when u check your visa status online.

Goodluck! :)
