hi guys,

hope you can help me with this.. I will have my interview this week and jist realize today that my passport is less than 6months from the expiration date. it will expire on jan 07 2015.. I thought I'm still within the 6months coz I counted from aug-jan without considering the exact day just "month"... this being said, if I renew my passport tomorrow I won't still be able to get the new passport after 10-15days of expedited passport... do u think this will put me to 221g or cause me any problem at the embassy?

need you help badly.

thanks

This is our case

Our interview will be in August. We already filled out the ds160 with old passport. When we get the new passport in a couple of days then we will fill out a new ds160 and email copies of our old passport and newpassport bio page to the embassy. and will also bring both passports to the interview.

If we were you, we would get the new passport (remember your old one is still valid until issue of new passport). You can take the risk of going to the Interview and maybe receiving a 221 and just explain you will send the new passport once you have it. Or maybe try to reschedule the Interview? The thing about rescheduling it is not always guaranteed on a good date for you.

When you apply for a new passport, DFA will punch holes on your existing passport making it invalid. The US Embassy will not accept a passport with holes but given the situation, they will most likely issue a 221g for the new passport.

To babydoll6218: Apply for a new passport, attend your interview and explain why you have an invalid passport, expect a 221g then send the new passport ASAP. You can also re-schedule. Its up to you. Good luck.

Thinking ahead, how hard is it to get a PI passport in the US. If you get your visa in the old passport and travel to the US, you cannot re-enter teh US until you have AP or the GC which takes time and your current passport will most likely be expired. You need a new passport anyway, why not get it now rather than trying to get a new one in the US. The only reason I can see of waiting is to get the new passport in your married name, but having the passport in your maiden name and the GC in your married name is not usually an issue if you carry your Marriage Certificate with you when you travel.

That will be an issue as you are required to have 6 months minimum validity remaining on the passport, I would say there is a very good chance of getting a 221g for a new passport... at the minimum.

b. PASSPORT. You must have a passport valid for at least six (6) months.

Dave

They won't issue a visa if there's less than 6 months validity of the passport.

OP, go to to the interview but don't give them the passport. Get a new one and then send it in for visa stamping.

But I think she needs to get the appointment first before she can even renew her passport. .if her interview is this week, maybe she will run out of time. .That's why she needs to go to DFA and ask whatever way they can help her with the situation. .attend the interview and explain..

That's why she should expect a 221g if she doesn't get the new passport in time for her interview.

She can still attend her interview as scheduled, but expect delay on visa issuance until she submits the new passport.

Yeah..It's better for her to get the appointment now and just attend the interview.

Exactly. Attend the Interview is the best step to take right now so all you have to do is to turn in your new passport when you get it.

Instead of canceling the Interview and not being able to get another one soon.

So attend it :)
