AOS and EA confusion

So I have been following my case on the USCIS site and it shows that my card is being produced for my EA but there has been no update to my adjustment of status case. Does the fact that my Employment Authorization is showing

On July 7, 2014, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

mean that my green card is being produced? Or is this something else.

My AoS still shows

On May 14, 2014, your fingerprint fee was accepted and we have mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. Your case is being processed at our NATIONAL BENEFITS CENTER location. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

I went in on June 16 for the biometrics appointment if that makes a difference.

It would be nice to be able to go visit my kids before the summer is out and they go back to school, but I am not getting my hopes up.

Your EAD/AP combo card (if you applied for them both) are processed separately to your AOS application. Sadly the fact that your EAD card is on its way doesn't mean that your green card is also on its way, however if you did apply for AP then that comes through with the EAD so you should be able to visit your kids.

The EAD/AP and AOS are processed separately. If you have received an update or e-notification that your EAD/AP card is produced, then you should be able to receive it within 2-3 business days (based from experience and reports here).

I assumed that you have filed for AP with your AOS, because it is what you need for re-entry to US. When you have a chance, do update your AOS timeline, so people trying to help will be more certain on what forms you filed.

Edit: The EAD/AP card is different from the green card (result of I-485 approval).

I had applied for AP but they declined it saying that was on the wrong form. I never sent it back in, after looking at the times for processing, the sites say that the greencard was processing faster than the AP anyway. If all else fails, I will go back at Christmas. Thanks for resonding.

So you have never received a receipt number for I-131 (AP) at all? If so, unfortunately, you won't get the AP privilege with your EAD card.

I have a receipt number, and can send it back in witha copy of my receipt for the AoS, but tbh, we can't afford for me to fly back right now anyway, so I will wait on my greencard, get working and plan a Christmas trip or to being them down.

That would be the case if you never filed it back again. All the best then and hope you get a timely approval of your GC!

So to be clear, once I get my EAD I can start working even though I won't have the actual greencard? Or do I still need to wait ont he greencard?

That's right! The EAD literally gives you an employment authorization.

Edit: You need SSN too, of course.

Perfect. I have my SSN already, and gettingt o work ASAP will be wonderful. I have been stuck at home since November, unable to work or drive and although I do get out of the house, I am not one to not be working. It drives me carzy some times.

When did you get your SS card? If you still have it in your maiden name, might as well update it to your new married name once you receive your EAD card (that is, if you're changing it to your husband's last name).

I had my Marriage Certificate when I got it so it has my Married name on it already. The only thing other than travel that i need my green gard for is to get my drivers license renewed. They didn't tell me when I went in that I could only get a license for as long as my visa was valid, and the day it arrived...it also expired. If i had of known that i would have held on to my canadian licnese so that I wasn't completely housebound. But..Lesson learned and info passed on to others going through this process.
