Where can we get married

As a whole my particular state also claims that a valid SSN is needed. However, there is nothing stopping the K1 fiancé from obtaining a SSN, and I am told that a passport with valid documentation should suffice in it's place. I know I'll be calling my county clerk to confirm as we get closer to the date. If they want to make false claims, then obviously they won't be getting our fee. As to the OP, as the slogan goes ''Virginia is for lovers'' -- it's a lot less restrictive, and is actually tempting me to consider going there myself. You are not required to be a resident, you can marry anywhere in the state, there is no waiting period, no witnesses, nor do I even think a SSN is a requirement as long as you both have some sort of ID proof. If you're interested in a location in a particular county, just look up the requirements or give them a call.

Why the strange resistance to having witnesses to her wedding?

Does your bride understand that you need to show a bona fide marriage to get her green card. Having witnesses at your wedding sures goes to show that its a bona fide marriage.

I don't think it's strange. We got stuck having two strangers from the court witness ours and one of them was kind of a snarky b*tch. Would that I could do it over again...

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.

TX also requires no witnesses.

As to the issue of "it's a federal law that you must have a social security number to obtain a marriage license", that is both true and false (but mostly false). You must provide a social security number to obtain your marriage licence if you have one, but if you don't then you obviously cannot. How do people think foreigners on vacation get married here?

If you're not a same sex couple you can get married in any state you like.

I think (not 100% sure) PA, NJ, VA, and AR are the only states you don't need a witness and I know in Las Vegas some places will provide a witness for you. You usually need at least one and most of the time two witnesses at a court wedding ceremony.

FL doesn't require witnesses either.

Well foreigners are not allowed to get married in the greatest country in the world! That might make them citizens!!! Just ask the Big Lots cashier, even she knows that.

Minnesota requires two witnesses. No SS card required even for citizens, my wife just used her passport as an ID.

We live in NJ and as of 2014 you need at least 1 witness to be married in the state of NJ.
