Email I just had to send to World Education Services regarding documents needed to evaluate my eligibility (via my English law degree) to progress towards the Bar:

"I write regarding order no. XXXXXXX. I specifically said in my order NOT to send the requested documents to the California Bar. I said to send them to me. I gave ONLY my address and yet you sent them to the Bar. They are useless to the Bar without the application to which they must be attached, and only I can be the one to send the application. You have now wasted three weeks of my time waiting for these documents to arrive. Please call me back on XXX XXX XXXX to tell me how we can resolve this. I am about to blow a deadline due to your staff's inability to read directions. I expect you to send me a copy of the report and the extra document which I faxed to you as soon as possible, using your fastest service, at no charge to me.

I assume, like all my other emails in the past, this email will be ignored. I have stopped recommending your services to others, and intend never to do so again."

Bust your butt and do all the hard work and coordinating to ensure personal success. And in the long run, its almost always the uncontrollable and relatively simply tasks that cause delays/issues. Its a universal truth in any field. See building permits and the issue there of.

Update! I managed to get through to WES and tell them they were idiots. Apparently, they decided that I could not have meant it when I said to address the documents to the CA Bar admissions body care of me, so they "corrected" it for me. I said I had made it abundantly clear that I wanted them sent to me, and their decision to override my explicit instructions was not acceptable. After some consulting with a supervisor, they apologised and agreed to send me the documents at my home address free of charge. Now I can have my entire application ready to go on Monday.

(I made sure to use my haughtiest accent, which tends to have excellent results. 60% of the time, it works every time.)

Sorry to spam the thread, but I just noticed that today is my eighth anniversary of joining VJ. WOW! So much has changed in those 8 years. I quit my beloved job, moved across an ocean with a husband, worked at a think tank, moved across a country, lived in the 'burbs, broke up with my cheatin' husband for whom I'd moved continents and coasts, fell in love with a little black kitten who is now a big black cat that likes to box my ears at 6am, moved over the hill into LA, went off the deep end, had a series of terrible dates and half-relationships, quit being a consultant, was unemployed for six precarious months, met an amazing man who showed me that American men really are the bestest EVAR, went back into the legal field, fell in love with my Mr U, got in a car accident, steadily rebuilt my body and mind and heart, got truly bones-deep happy for the first time in my adult life, stopped shirking responsibility, went back to law school and grew the eff up.

And I posted a lot on VJ. That too.

It should be done BEFORE you move because signing up for a VPN in China requires a VPN. Luckily we were able to figure it out.
