What is Administrative Processing in K1 Visa?

I had my interview on May 6 and they told me to give them the original intent to marry document by courier service. They kept my passport and gave me a form that has 221g checked and also says further consideration will be given to your visa application after obtaining the missing document. I have sent the missing document and they received it a week ago. My status says that it is under administrative processing. I don't know but I heard that people have to wait a long time in AP. Does anyone know what it really is in my case?

I am a Canadian citizen and my fiance is born and raised in Chicago. Please any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

As far as I know, Administrative Processing in a mandatory for some MENA countries, Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan. Applicants from those countries have to endure background checks for security reasons. For missing documents, AP is only for completed the papers. I went under AP as well, and it was only 2 days and I had all documents, just normal and probably they had printed the visa on my passport. So, my guess, they will issues your visa very soon after they checked properly documents.

wa salaam, what is your nationality and where is your husband from? I heard mostly Pakistanis, Indians and applicants from those regions go through AP.

I really hope it works out for both of you.
