I've been working in the offshore oil industry with Louisianans from the Cajun Belt south of I-10 for many, many years. You can't get any work done on the facility when there is a Saints or LSU game on TV. They shut down the whole operation to watch the game. They are downright rabid about it. You have to see it to believe it!

Yeah, but it was a really big game.

I'm sure the couple thought they had a pretty big wedding  I'll never understand the quasi-religious devotion to sports

Weddings involving sports fans and their families should probably be planned on non-gamedays... I guess it would suck though for the couple, but clearly this was more of a planning issue than the fault of the hardcore Saints fans who were invited.

Guests who skipped out on the wedding but still sent presents should have a shorter forgiveness period than those who did not.

Ok, none of the above was serious! But I had to go there!

This sounds a lot like my ex (one of the reasons he's my ex). He wanted to make sure HIS wedding wasn't during deer season.

I realize these people had tickets, but don't you think they KNEW well in advance the date on the tickets??? This would irritate me if my husband and I had poured a lot of money and effort into the wedding...and if there were definate RSVP's involved. This is just plain rude, to skip out on a wedding...haven't these people ever heard of TiVo or some such thing as that? Or even a VCR?

No doubt...plus the Saints have only played 5 playoff games in their 40-year existence. When they planned the wedding, I'm sure they didn't expect the Saints to make the playoffs. They should have immediately rescheduled.

Very rude to cancel on a wedding you've already accepted to for the sake of the game. I could see choosing not to go the wedding, especially if it were a couple I didn't know that well. But cancelling is gauche.

Of course, it's a general rule among my friends not to schedule weddings on Notre Dame weekends.

Unless it's the USC game and then I'm sure you schedule whatever you can because you probably grow tired of the yearly beating at the hands of the Trojans.

Well since this is a playoff game they certainly did NOT know well in advance or even that it was going to be the evening game until just a week or so ago.

Tickets to the live game is very different than TiVo, not even comparable....

YMMV
