Or since you need to leave "the country" on a plane that is not allowed? When I travel to Puerto Rico it's considered a "domestic" flight by some airlines but others treat is as "international.

I am going to visit my family on the summer and was wondering if my SO is going to stay at home while I'm on paradise....

Thank you guys!

Are you sure? 'Cus when we board the gate is domestic, and when I came here the first time I only had a visa with ONE entry allowed, and I went through Miami and then PR and then back to Miami before returning to Brazil, if PR was international, that'd be TWO entries, and I had no problems with that.

Also, that would make me STUCK in Puerto Rico until my green card, not being able to fly even to Miami if I wanted to, and as far as I know I got this visa and my status as allowed to be in the US, and travel around in the US, so it'd be something like setting appart those that married puertoricans but went through the exact same proceedings as everyone else not to be allowed to travel around the US the same way.

Can you provide a cite from your source?

My understanding it is international travel only if you have to transit immigration/passport control upon arrival. If it is a domestic flight then there should be no problem.

I'd really do some investigating before you do anything. We are wanting to take a cruise and although where we want to go is a U.S territory, the ship would leave U.S territory to get there. That's where they say we would have a problem since he does not have his greencard yet.

A cruise is a differnt animal! Is treated differently than a flight. You will have a problem.

All I know is that boarding in Miami to PR is a domestic flight and they only glance at your passport, and there's no immigration.

As Laura said, we don't pass thru immigration controls when we visit PR. It's treated like a domestic flight in that matter. For me a driver's license was good enough for an ID.

But since we are going to an island, I was not sure if that would be against him for AOS pending and would count as over seas because we are "phisically" leaving the country. We have not married yet but I think he should be here by that time I need to travel (hoping that everything goes fine on his interview)

Thanks for your help, I could not find this specific info for US territories.

I'd look into this, or find someone who's actually done it. When we went to the USVI when my wife was still on her student visa, they checked all her immigration documents when we returned home from St. Thomas. In other words, there is an immigration check point returning to the continental US. I don't know if this is the case for PR or other territories.

I don't know if this means "international travel," but I'd only travel on AP just to be safe.

I understand your thinking but the same would apply if you flew to Hawaii because you would also fly over international water, or to Alaska for that matter because you fly over Canada.....

Sol-de-Verano, if you contact USCIS regarding this and get an answer, I'd be interested in knowing that as well.

It’s my personal experience. It was winter of 1999. Before boarding the plain on the way back from Puerto Rico to Miami an officer pull us a side for inspection. I asked him “Could we board the plane if we didn’t have green card stamps in our passports?” He says “No”

Now that's twisted. It means I'm "stuck" on the island until my green card comes through.
