We sent to Puerto Rico (Boqueron) via Orlando for our honeymoon in September 2006. It was a domestic flight (despite the fact that NWA thinks Puerto Rico is international, it's a US territory).

No passport requested by airline (NWA and AA), and there was no passing through immigration.

Taking a cruise is another matter, though. I don't have experience with that.

At my interview on Wednesday, the interviewing officer said they like to see photos of the couple on vacation.. in front of recognizable monuments etc. and he asked me if I had gone to the Carribean or the Keys or anything like that and I was like "What!??! I could have gone there?!?!!" He said of course! It's still part of the US. I was like uh noooo I hadn't even thought of it.

So I assume that means that you CAN travel to PR. I don't see why an interviewing officer would lie.

Oooook, I read this on www.dhs.gov (Homeland Security site) about the "Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative" program:

Traveling To and From U.S. Territories

U.S. Citizens traveling to and returning directly from a U.S. territory are not considered to have left the U.S. territory and do not need to present a passport.

U.S. territories include:

American Samoa

Guam

Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands

Puerto Rico

Swains Island

U.S. Virgin Islands"

And more of the same from the FAQS:

"Will this requirement apply to travel between the United States and Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands?

The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative will not affect travel between the United States and its territories. U.S. citizens traveling between the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa will continue to be able to use established forms of identification to board flights and for entry."

I think that as being considered an US Territorry it would be like traveling to another state?

I got in quite an argument last summer (and almost missed the plane) when I was going to PR and the United Airlines man that was checking me in wouldn't accept my license requiring me a passport!! I had to explain to him what PR is and a brief history class, good thing that another customer backed me up with my story *sigh* I cannot believe they have people like that working on an airlines counter... :help:

And as Laura mentioned, why would we go thru the exact same K-1 process if it was not part of the US?

I am going to see if I can find more specific information related to pending AOS before calling the desinformation line...
