If tourist visas were denied in the past because a relative overstayed on a tourist visa in the US many years ago, will that affect the K1 visa we are waiting for if our NOA2 already has come? Our lawyer says no, but I'm still worried....thoughts?

Did YOU overstay a visa?

If it was just a relative, then it shouldn't be a problem. It wasn't you.

march 14, 2014 - case received by local embassy

may 1, 2014 - visa in hand

june 13, 2014 - POE: Boston

Aug 1, 2014 - AOS/EAD/AP package delivered to Chicago Lockbox

Aug 6, 2014 - NOA1

Aug 19, 2014 - Biometrics appointment for AOS & EAD

Sept 29, 2014 - EAD/AP combo card received in mail.

Mid-Nov - Potential Waiver of Interview letter received

End of May 2015 - renewed my EAD/AP, got the NOA1 and another letter stating that I don't need to do biometrics appt.

June 11, 2015 - welcome to America letter! (no interview...no service request..)

June 16, 2015 - green card in hand

No, denial of a tourist visa has no effect on the K1. Nor does the actions of relatives.

Usually it's not a big problem, unless the overstay was very long or has other extenuating circumstances.

Your lawyer is right. This won't have any effect on your K-1 case.

Are you saying SHE will have an issue because a family member overstayed THEIR visa? I disagree...

No, no it wasn't either of us, it was my fiance's older brother who is now married to a US citizen and living in the US.

I got denied B-2 visa back in 2010. My visa was approved in January 21. I have been in the US about 3 months now.

I don't think it will be a problem. My tourist visa was cancelled and was denied entry in the US but I still got approved in my K1-Visa.... God is good! :)
