USCIS conducts background check during the initial stage. Does the petitioner have any past criminal charges/records?

That's way too long, have you been in touch with your political representatives about this? Some people have had luck getting answers that way.

Get the ombudsmen a call. Call your congressman they should have been called like 6 months ago. You need to be proactive and start alerting people that may can get things along.

Contact your Congressman's office. They will have the ability to cut through all the ####### that USCIS dishes out and find out exactly what the true story is. They were our middleman for all of our questions that we had and actually were able to push our case forward. Every time we contacted the Congressman's office, they were back to us with an answer within 24 hours. (EVERY TIME) We finally got our approval on the I-130.

Use the system, that's what they are there for.
