Hey guys,

this has nothing to do with the visa, but i still wanted to share it with ya'll.

I signed my cancellation agreement at work today, dated for the 30th or april, so if you check my timeline

and the processing time, this should be a good time to quit the job :)

It was a funny feeling, because this was already a huge step to me, since this job was permanent BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT

it felt GREAT also. Now i am a little bit closer to my goal.....to be with my fiance forever YAY !!!!

How long did you all wait to quit the job and how was the feeling???

I am EXCITED :D

I gave them like 2 yrs notice, lol!! Was in the canadina Armed Forces. Had just transferred from navy to air force!! So I owed them 2 more yrs of service. I had just met my wife at time of transfer, so who knew at the time if the relationship would work or not!! Needles to say it did and my occupation was not that happy with my choice to get out, but they understood!! Glad al is going well for u

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I handed in my notice at work once I had passed my interview. I would never have done it before, just in case we were denied (small chance but you never can tell). Even then, my visa took a month to arrive and I almost was out of a job with no visa. It was a stressful time.

I sincerely hope that your timeline and visa issuance works out as you anticipate.

I know how it feels! I have a very good relationship with my bosses, and they knew i had a steady relationship with someone from the US, so I had hinted already that i might leave eventually, but gave official notice in October, so they had enough time to find a replacement and for me to train him/her, and it's worked out perfectly.

But i was a bit nervous until my interview was done and the visa in my passport. I mean, i had given notice at work and my apartment, so i pictured myself jobless and homeless if things didn't work out.

Good luck with the rest of the process!

I let work know that it was coming for about 9 months - when we filed for the visa - but didn't hand in my official notice until I had the visa in hand. That was hard because it was far far and away the best job I had ever had in all ways - boss, type of work, location, money, colleagues. . . As it was, it wasn't work that was the problem - it was the notice on my apartment - I was on a month to month agreement and had to give a minimum of a month's notice. Then of course, my fiance's schedule had to be co-ordinated so that he was available to come up and pick me and the belongings I was transporting right away (mainly cats and houseplants) across the border - which required me negotiating with my landlady to allow me to stay an extra week without penalty. The 5 weeks notice I gave worked out well as it allowed us to advertise for my replacement and to give her 2 weeks in tandem training. Still, it is a 'heart in the throat' moment when you hand in your resignation and know you don't have another job waiting - just a big move to another country.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

yeah that is right, but we in Germany (at least at my job) just can quit the job 3 months to the end of a quarter, which means either the 31st of march or the 30th of june etc. So IF i get the visa at the end of april, i would've to wait until the end of june to move to the states and THAT is a waaaaaaay to long for my taste.

As soon as i hold the visa in my hand i am going to move to my baby.:D

It sure is a little risky, i admit that, but in my opinion the right and BEST decission.

Maybe i should add, that my parents live close to me (same town, right across the street), so if things go bad, i can live with them until the Visa is in my hands and not pay extra money.

Today i will write the cancellation for my appartment, for the end of may! YAYYYY.....
