Translation stress

I can't believe I'm asking yet another question about the I-130. I just want to send the damn thing! Anyway, we are about to send everything to an official Colombian translator to get that done. I have a rather lengthy health insurance form, filled out by hand by the insurance agent, that shows I'm now on my husband's plan. Obviously, we want to include this as evidence of a bonafide marriage. I have two questions related to this:

1. It's a really long form on contact paper with a ton of boxes and spaces that weren't even checked off or filled in. Do we need to have the entire form translated, exactly as it is? Or can we just translate the relevant parts that were filled in? I searched the forum but maybe I didn't use the right key words, because I didn't find anything. We really don't want to screw this up and get a RFE.

2. We also each have a certificate of affiliation that we can print from online and send (with translation). I was added to the plan on Feb. 26 and and therefore only have emergency coverage until March 26. My husband thinks we would wait until March 26 so that we can print the certificate saying I'm fully covered. I have a big lump in my throat thinking of waiting 16 more days just for that, and THEN sending everything to be translated. Do y'all agree with my husband?

2A. Now I am wondering if these certificates would be enough evidence. They both include our names, ID numbers, date of start of coverage, name/logo of insurance company and that he is the account holder and I am the beneficiary. Could we just send this without the form described in #1? That form has my husband's signature; these certificates don't.

My inclination was the same--let's just get it in! But yes, they could send an RFE later if they want it. Is that what you meant? The problem with that is that we are filing from abroad. We'd get the RFE notice online and then wait weeks and weeks for it to get through the Colombian postal system to be able to sent the hard copy with whatever they're asking for. There's also a chance it could get lost. We'd rather avoid dealing with that mess, which is why we're being extremely cautious about the initial I-130 packet.

Anyone else?

Hi Ryan H, thanks so much for answering me. It's a Colombian insurance company and absolutely everything is in Spanish on the form and on the certificates. Someone who does not speak Spanish would really not be able to decipher it unless they understood titular, parentesco, tipo de afiliado, cónyuge, estado de la afiliación, etc. Are you referring to the long form with all the boxes, the certificates, or both?

can the insurance company give you a letter stating you have coverage so it can be easily translated, can you get a health insurance card.

The person translating the document must certify that the translation is complete and accurate and that he/she is competent to translate from the foreign language into English."

Strictly speaking, the health insurance form is a piece of evidence that you are using to show bona fide marriage. "Documents" in this instance are items such as marriage certificates, birth certificates, etc. is what needs to be translated.

With that being said, I would include an explanation as to what the item was.

You do know that if you are fluent in English and Spanish you can do your own translation. You just have to certify that you are fluent and its a true translation.

Yes, I am fluent. But most of our documentation is in Spanish, so due to the sheer quantity we're having the same translator who did my documents so we could get married do these documents to save me the time and effort. Official Colombian translators are everywhere and quite affordable, fortunately. But thank you!
