Just want to share my citizenship interview story. It went well (almost, there was still a catch) hehe. I arrived there 10am for my interview at 1115am. The interviewing officer (Philadelphia USCIS) called me at 1110. He saw I was with my husband and son so he asked me if that was my family, and also asked if he was in the military since it was in my file. Then he went through all the pages/questions in the 20page form... took about 20 minutes in total. He was confused about my name because I did the typical Filipino tradition of changing my last name and making it my middle name. He told me that I will have to do a judicial oath taking for that since its a name change, I told him its the name I've been using since AOS and its on my green card. But I didn't argue anymore since he is the boss lol. Anyway after going through the form (asking about my trips, my work, addresses, speeding ticket-haha, and husband and child) he gave me the test which was very easy.
The questions I got were: What is one right or freedom from the first amendment? Who is in charge of the executive branch? If the pres can no longer serve, who becomes pres? Describe one of the amendments to the constitution about who can vote. What is one reason colonists came to america? What are two cabinet level positions?
after that he made me read a sentence in english, and write another sentence in english. He then said I was approved, and he gave me a paper saying I was recommended for approval. He said I will have to wait for a letter regarding my schedule for oath, coz he needs to verify if I need a judicial oath or not. He congratulated me and told me to have a nice day.
Hopefully it doesnt take forever to get an oath schedule. I called my county and they only do a couple oaths a year so I think I have to wait a while. But I am still glad its over.
:)

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

No, they won't put you in-line until there is 1 month to your anniversary,

i am since 6/27 in fact in-line (received emails lol) but even if they call me for an interview before 7/27 (which i highly doubt), they can't give me an approval. There are couple people like this. Approval comes after the anniversary date passes.

Anywho you should get your interview by August, me prolly September

We must wait for the letter to see when the oath taking will take place, but it will be in Rock Island, Il.Also, we arrived early, were called for an interview early, and left before the scheduled interview time.

To reiterate... your application was not put in line right after fingerprints (which is the case for people that apply after their anniversary) because your anniversary was more than 1 month away. It had nothing to do with background checking taking too long as you stated etc.

I had my interview this morning at the Wichita field office. My appointment was for 11:30 and I got there at 11:15. There was one person waiting for her husband in the lobby. Two people came out while I waited, one more person came in, and we both were called shortly after 11:30.

The officer swore me in and then went over my application. He then asked the civics questions. I got the first six right. Then we did the reading and writing test. He then approved my application and told me my oath letter would be coming in the mail in the next 45 days. Wichita oath ceremonies happen every other month. The July one is already filled up, so my oath will be in September.

My six questions were:

What is one of the two longest rivers in the United States?

Who is the speaker of the House?
Who lived in the United States before Europeans settled?
We elect the President for how many years?
When was the Declaration of Independence signed?
What do we call the first ten amendments to the Constitution?
The interview lasted about 15 minutes and I was very pleased with the whole experience.

Hi Everyone,

I received a yellow letter today indicating what documents they need at the interview. They are asking for ID/State DL and all passports and travel documents. I've read that this is a common thing and the letter is nothing more than a reminder. There is nothing I should do about the letter at the moment, right? I guess the interview letter should arrive soon...Congrats to all those that had their interviews and good luck to rest of us waiting!

i have an interview this coming tuesday im so nervous about my past crime that happen 7 years ago i did get it expunge and set aside and dismiss under pen code 1203.4. thats in california. I've been good since then no other crimes or offense.

I do have a question on the applications.

On question number 15 on part 10 it states "have you ever committed a crime or offense for which you were not arrested?" i answered NO because i did not get arrested but i got charge a felony at the court house it was when i got involve in my friend mess which was for insurance fraud and i pleaded guilty to the crime which i should had not got involve with.

"The short story".

the judge did give me a lesser punishment of 5 years of unsupervised probation and no jail time. the reason why the judge granted me that because i told the judge that i did not commit the crime i just got involve since my old friend and the auto shop did sent a fraudulent claim with my name on it. yeah stupid of me i know i did not know my rights and i represented my self with no lawyer at the time so i kinda took the blaim and consequences.

should i have answer yes to that question? it is a tricky question i just want to be honest on my interview that's all.i have all court disposition and documents of expungement . should i be ok on the day of my interview? if i change my answer to question 15 on part 10 on the application to a YES. i really dont know if its a yes or a no what do think?

I also forgot to add a traffic volation back in 2012 for not completely stopping at a red light for a right turn i have all documents that i did pay all fines and traffic school. will i be ok for adding this on to my application . again i just want to be honest so i can get approve of naturalization

I did get some advise from an immigration lawyer 2 years ago that i can apply for naturaluzation if i get my past crime expunge. it is now expunge.

I"m very well prepared for the interview but i"m second guessing my self on that question .

ANY ADVICE ?
