Hi VJers,

Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far!

Our experience so far has been long, but without any problems until now, the AOS part. We hope it's not a serious problem and can be solved quickly. Then again it may not be so. Hopefully someone can give us some suggestions. Thanks!

We rented a car and arrived for our AOS interview at the Miami Field Office 15 minutes early, where the lady at the front desk scanned our letter and was then told our interview was canceled. She scanned it a couple times to make sure and even typed it in manually. She then told us our next step was to make an Infopass Appointment, but we had no success with that. We did not receive any cancelation letters in the mail, or emails. So then we called USCIS immediately while at local office, to find out any information. They had no records of it being canceled. They asked if we received any cancelation letters. After that we went back home, and then 2 days later our case online (which has never changed from "Acceptance" in over a year) finally changed to "Decision" : Denied. Very upset realizing that some mistake was made, we called USCIS to find out any information to what may have happened. They had no info available and was told to wait for the letter in the mail for the reason of denial. We received the letter 3 days later which was sent from the same Field Office we went to for the interview. Reason for denial: We did not appear at the interview.

We called USCIS again and explained our situation, where they filed a Service Request to say that the Denial was done in Error. We now have to wait on a reply in the mail for that.

We also finally got an Infopass appointment to speak to an IO at the Field Office, but that is 9 days away, which might be a long time to find out anything.

Does anyone know if you are registered as appeared when your letter is scanned?

How do we prove that we appeared for the interview?

Has anyone experienced this before and what was your outcome?

Thanks a lot everyone, and good luck to all still awaiting approvals in your journey!

I think if they scanned your letter then it should be in the system that you were present and they will reopen the case and reschedule the appointment. This whole experience is incredibly stupid. I'm sorry it's happening to you. Best of luck and don't panic.

You may want to contact one of your congressional representatives, explain the situation and have them help you out. It's clearly USCIS' mistake so I don't think you're in any danger in the long run, it will probably just be an annoyance more than anything else to try and get it straightened out.
