I'm not familiar with how the American asylum system works, but are you saying the "resident since" date on your green card roughly corresponds the date it was printed? Why do you think that's a mistake?

It looks like you get credit for up to 1 year of your status as an asylee. That means that you can apply for citizenship 4 years after you became a permanent resident because your permanent residence was approved based on your status as an asylee. Please see the two links below for commentary on this issue from attorneys:

http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/bronx/asylum-seekers-naturalize-4-yrs-united-states-article-1.197452

Unfortunately, I haven't found an official USCIS rule on this issue yet, but if I do, I'll post it here. I don't know if the 90 day rule would apply to you (normally you can apply 90 days before your 5th anniversary as a permanent resident).

Also note that both links discuss the date on the green card being "wrong" for asylees. I think that's a little over my head, so I recommend you do a little more research or speak directly with USCIS or a lawyer before applying.

I hope this was helpful.

I understand your confusion. Here's a lawyer who disagrees with the two links I posted:

I would suggest that you would call the 1800 number for USCIS or make an infopass. I personally don't have no clue about how would your situation go and when would you be able to apply for citizenship.

Sorry for not being much of help but USCIS would be your best help.

Here you go, I found the official policy:

"When your green card is granted, you (and your derivative family members) will have your date of adjustment of status rolled back 1 year from the date your green card is granted."

This is from the USCIS website at this link: http://www.uscis.gov/green-card/green-card-through-refugee-or-asylee-status/green-card-asylee

This means that your "Resident Since" date on your card SHOULD be 1 year before you got the actual green card. You can apply for citizenship 5 years from this date. If the date on your green card is the date the card was printed and not the 1 year before the card was printed, you should contact USCIS to see what your options are.
