I-864 and Joint Sponsor Question

Hi guys,

In an attempt to be on top of things for when our approval finally comes through, I have been looking over the I-864 and have a question regarding the joint sponsor.

We are able to satisfy the 'Assets' test however as all our assets are based in Australia and we have not yet secured employment in the US, we have asked my uncle to sponsor my husband. As the petitioner, I'll still provide information on our assets but I thought having someone else with a regular income stream would add strength to our position.

I'm confused on the first page of the I-864 (great start, right?). When my uncle (sponsor) completes the form, will he select:

1.d. I am the only joint sponsor
1.e. I am the first or second of two joint sponsors

I'm just not sure if I, as the petitioner, am considered a sponsor? Or if he is the sole sponsor so should be ticking 1.e. and marking himself as the second of 2 joint sponsors. There will not be anyone else involved in our petition. I've located the form at http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-864.pdf and have also read the instructions regarding completion, but am just a bit confused as to whether I am counted as a sponsor or if my uncle is the sole sponsor.

Any help would be appreciated!

hi

as the petitioner you are the primary sponsor, so you will file an i864 as sponsor, your uncle will file his own i864 and mark that he is the only joint sponsor on his i864

Thanks Aleful, appreciate the speedy reply. I'll have him redo the front page of the I-864 he has sent me as he has marked that he is the 2nd of 2 joint sponsors.

you are not a joint sponsor, you are the primary. He is the joint sponsor
