Bringing wedding dress in the US

Hey everybody,

I bought my wedding dress here in Germany and I will take it with me under my arm to the airplane and will ask the cabin attendants to stow it for me in the aircraft.

As I have been one of them before that shouldn't be a problem ;-)

My question is will I have to pay taxes on this dress when I go through customs in the US??? Do I have to write it down on the form I will get in the aircraft and the price that i paied in Germany for it? And yes, it will remain in the US.

Hi, no you will not have to declare it as it is your personnel clothing. Congratulations by the way.))

No US taxes and no need to declare the dress. A wedding dress is just clothes. And no one ever has to declare what clothes they are bringing with them when they enter the US. This is personal property.

If you intend to sell the dress, then it would be commercial property and you would need to declare it.

If I were you, to be on the safe side give the airline a call before doing so because many times airplanes will advise you have to store it yourself in the overhead luggage compartment

I did exactly that, had no problems coming in (apart from having to lug that thing around with me)
