First post ppl, so please be gentle.

@ 18 months ago I had a stroke. I was fortunate n that I've pretty much recovered. Still have the odd co-ordination issues ( dropping stuff ), memory not as good as it used to be etc. I'm 44yrs of age ( 42 when it happened ). I'm still in the same high pressure job, which can be stressful at times which requires me to think fast on my feet. On the positive side, it's given me a whole new perspective on life.

I was cleared to drive, to travel, fly etc over a year ago. I am on medication for high BP and beta blockers etc. I've heard that having such a blip on your medical history can go against your k1 application when taking the medical examination.

Can anyone be refused a k1 on medical grounds?

The K-1 medical is to find infectious/contagious disease that will harm the people in the US, like TB. Your stroke won't harm anyone, so don't worry.

They may want to see that you will have health insurance when you get here, but that's all, and I am not sure how likely that question would be anyway.

Good luck.

AOS for my husband

I don't think it will be a problem, but just to be in the safe side, can you get a letter from your doctor stating that you have recovered and are on medication? IF it comes up at your medical, you'll have that as backup for your situation.

Thank you for your prompt replies. Yes, I'll do that and bring a letter with me to evidence the fact I've recovered. We're not going to get married until 2015, but nice to know it prob. won't be an issue down the line!

Another thing to have the doctor include any medications if any that you are taking in the letter. Had to go through that with my mom when I did her GC due to the fact that she had diabetes and was on medication.

Like others said, I would just get a letter from your doctor stating you have recovered and are fit. If it is anything like my medical you won't even be asked and will be out from seeing the Dr in less than 10 mins! Just to check though - you haven't filed for the petition yet have you?
