Meant uk to California by the way lol.

Thanks for the heads up about searching for other posts, tried but couldn't find any where the cat was cargo rather than in cabin

IT cost me £900 to ship my two cats from the UK (Northern Ireland) to the US, excluding the vets costs getting their pet passports and medical clearances and certs.

lost one after 6 months. Think a deer or bear got it.

Are you REALLY that attached to your cat. If you are that is fine and well worth it. Otherwise re home it. Believe me the US has plenty of cats.

Also I thought it was Texas that wanted to sussed. Didn't know CA had already done it. Be careful this is how rumors start .lol

We seem to have become a cat home since getting to the US. As I said, we lost one, so down to one.. Pretty sure it was some larger animal. I found the poor thing or what remained of it out in the fields at the back of the house. My sister-in-law then asked us to look after her cat for a few months while she moved house. She has been moving house for the last two years. So back to two. Then the wife wanted to replaced the one we lost. Up to three. Then most recently a stray kitten walked straight in through the back door got up into my lap and hasn't moved out since.(without nearly no complaint for the other cats). So we are now up to four.

The wife also wants a dog, but we are not getting one till at least one human child leaves and the cat count drops below 2.

I want an Irish wolf hound but would settle for something a little smaller.

By the way your cat will be put into an over sized cat carrier and be put into the cargo hold of the plane. Animals are transported all the time. The hold is pressurized and lit obviously if they are transporting livestock.

People would not be to pleased if there received "petsicles" inside of live pets.

Haha thanks for the reassurance, thing is I've researched the hell out of the process all I'm really wanting is someone to tell me it's ok he won't be scared n that's not realistic, I feel guilty about bringing him in a plane but the other option is shelter n I don't know that whoever rescued would look after him like I would. I can imagine myself in the same situation as you out there, once we have our own home that we own my fiancé will have a hard time stopping me from bringing in all the waifs n strays

Hey! Thoght id share my experienced with you because I was so nervous about flying my cat over!

I shipped Nala over with Virgin Atlantic in October and she was just fine! She flew in the cargo bit and my parents flew in the human bit! They were all flying over for the wedding and Nala was obviously coming over for good to be with her mummy (Me :)) - I had flown the week before.

I had to get her microchipped, and all her kitten vaccs up to date, and a health export cert from the vet a few days before. The cost of stuff was...(sorry no pound symbols on American pooters!)

Airline ticket - 395 quid

Microchip and spaying - 60 quid

Airline approved carrier case - 40 quid http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000TBJ4J8/ref=pe_385721_37038051_pe_217191_31005151_3p_M3T1_dp_1

Export health Cert - 40 quid

US "handling fee" - $20

My parents said the cabin crew came over to their seats when they were getting ready to take off and said Nala was doing good and they had just given her some water!

They flew from LHR to Newark (7 hours) and then my husband and I drove her 8 hours from Newark to Michigan. She is a VERY nervous and small cat but she was absolutely fantastic and was excited and running around our apartment when we got home! The weird thing is shes a lot more outgoing and less shy than she was before "the journey". Go figure!

Haha I was just about to point that out, I'm doing mine with pet air uk and it's costing me £950 which seems madness compared to what you paid but what I'm paying extra for really is for Simba to be collected from my house, his custom made crate sprayed with feliway, pre flight health check and all the organising to be out of my hands so I don't have a nervous breakdown lol,

I'm so glad your cat was ok, Simba is a nervous boy so I'm petrified but you did reassure me a little.

Where abouts in the us does nala get to live now? Simbas off to California

I looked at Pet Air too and honestly would have loved to use them as they do have a good reputation but my husband was not happy with the price at all. Do they also do all the running around picking her up on the other end? If they do collect and deliver him it saves you a LOT of work, maybe not 950 worth of work but its pretty valuable nonetheless!

Yes Nala and I are living in Michigan now! I have been here 5 weeks and still feels like im on a long vacation lol, having Nala here really is so weird to me, im always like what is my cat doing in America? hahah she loves it here though and cat food/litter/toys etc. are so cheap here. I bought her the grey mouse you can see in the picture from "Petco" for $3 (early xmas prezzie) and it came with a big tube of cat nip that u can stuff it with and she LOVES it! I would recommend that toy for Simba due to how durable it is (shes tried tearing it apart), and cheap!

When are you planning to fly over? Honestly when you move over and cant work for 3 months and are by yourself all day you'll realize he was worth every penny!

That's really soon bet it will come around quick!

My husband likes to think hes allergic but he just doesn't like them lol. Nala usually sleeps with me every night in my bed but since we have been here he has somehow managed to get her to lay on her blanket on the floor behind the bedroom door like a dog! Its so weird. But she usually creeps on the bed when hes asleep :P
