Hello all,

Im new to this obviously but I read that you need to be in a relationship for a year to get aproval for k1 visa. My fiance and I have been together for a month Im visiting her family this month when I come. We fell in love at first sight and talk hours everyday. Im scared that what I read is true. We started a joint account so its easier to send money if she needs it and we have saved all our bills and tickets we also have lots of pictures from everywhere we have been.

Can someone please tell me if what I read was true because I have never read that in US visa requirements or a certain amount of time you have to be together just prove you are bona fied.

Thank you all for your time in reading and responding to this question..

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

No, the only requirement is that you have met in person. However, I would advise you to wait this out longer before petitioning her. 1 month is hardly enough time to be sure that you are meant for each other.

I agree with this post. Length of relationship isn't one of the requirements for the petition. You just have to prove that you met within 2 years of filing it. However, she needs to be prepared if/when asked about it during the interview. Luckily, Manila is a bit lenient about these things. But like the previous poster said, let the relationship withstand a little storm. You get to know who you're marrying a bit more beyond the "honeymoon stage" & specially during the very stressful visa process lol. Best of luck to you!

I agree with what others have posted. It's all wonderful and amazing when you first fall in love, and while I do know of some couples who got married within weeks of meeting and are still together, I also know of many who went past the honeymoon phase and broke up.

Let time do its thing, wait a few more months, then file with the certainty that this is what you both really want.
