Hi, we are in the process of gathering our documents to apply for the K1 visa. I am applying for my police certificates now, and I can see they are not required to be sent with the original I-129 application that my fiancée will file. Can anyone advise at what point the certificates are required? Thanks in advance, A&M :)

11/06/2012 - First met online

05/28/2013 - First met physically

10/15/2013 - Proposed :wub:

01/25/2014 - I-129F application lodged

05/27/2014 - Interview - Approved

06/18/2014 - Visa in hand

06/24/2014 - Arrived in the United States on the K1 visa!

07/01/2014 - Got married! (L)

08/06/2014 - Mailed AOS application

09/10/2014 - Biometrics appt

11/21/2014 - EAD and AP combo card in hand

12/16/2014 - Interview attended and application approved! :thumbs:

12/26/2014 - Green card in hand

09/27/2016 - Mailed ROC application

09/29/2016 - ROC application received by USCIS

10/03/2016 - NOA in hand! :)

11/07/2016 - Biometrics completed

03/15/2018 - ROC Approved! *No RFE or Interview! Thanks VJ* :thumbs:

04/06/2018 - 10 year GC in hand (With incorrect 'Resident Since' date - Filed SR online 'Typographical Error' with USCIS)

04/19/2018 - Email received from USCIS instructing me to return my GC for expedited correction - Mailed out today

That's only needed at the Embassy stage as part of the documents that you add when you file for the visa itself (remember that the I-129F is a petition for you to be able to request the K1 visa). Getting them done too early in the process is also not advisable as they might expire in the meantime.

Thanks, it is. :) We're waiting for an updated form of mine to reach my fiance and the packet will be mailed on Saturday - everything else is ready to go!

Thanks guys! I appreciate the feedback :) I have to get certificates from the UK, New Zealand and Australia. From what I've read on the embassy website the UK one will be valid for 12 months, even though for some reason the UK police state a validity of only 6 months on the certificate... Same with my Australian one, and my NZ one should be valid indefinitely, provided I don't visit NZ again during the process, which I don't intend to. Thanks again :)

You'll only need this for your medical exam which you'll have BEFORE your interview, then they will request to see it at your interview also. Good Luck!

Hi

Im new to this! I have been granted a K1 Visa and will be travelling next month. My Police Certificate expired like 3 days after my interview (no issues). I forgot to ask the embassy staff if I would need to get a new Certificate before I travel to the USA. Does anyone know if i need a 'in date' Police certificate at the point of entry or at any other point in the process from here??

Some jurisdictions won't even send them to you without seeing the letter from the consulate about the interview date. So by all means wait before you ask for them.

I don't think so but I am not 100% certain. I think you need passport, the newly issued fiance visa, and the brown envelope that is sealed.

I've never heard of anyone needing a police certificate for the POE.
