I'm sampling around for best possible opinion: how important is it to bring Passport to interview?

Howtosurvive, congrats! You didn't mention that. If you did bring valid Passport, wouldn't they put a 551 stamp in it? While people say there is zero chance they'd stamp an expired Passport. Is that 100% so?

I didn't bring a passport since my old passport expired since 2011 and I applied for a new one at my consulate but it didn't arrive in time for my interview. I brought the receipt for the new one and I brought my dl and ead as id's. At my local office they no longer stamp your passport and only a supervisor can approve the application but they io makes the recommendation for the approval. They only asked me couple security questions which I already answered on the i485 application.

A goverment issued I'd is required preferable a passport but mine was applied for and not yet here because my case took only 8 months for everything and the nature of my case it wasn't a big deal but yes you do need a valid I'd and I used my driver's license. Singledad2usc pls don't try to imply or make things more complicated. Try to have your passport or have a valid reason why you don't and not run the risk of being denied.

I really appreciate you taking time, but I'm trying to sample for more definitive info. My pro-bono lawyer, who will not be accompanying me, told me that VALID PASSPORT is required: as the applicant must be "admissible" as if at the border. Now: this is MORE than what you just referred to as valid ID. If only valid ID were required (as proof of your face), then you would just show your license - right? Someone without license could show EAD coupled with a photo EBT card (this combination is accepted by SSA to take your SSN application!)

In my case, not leaving the U.S. way over a decade, it is natural that my native passport is currently expired. It requires $200 fee plus logistics to get it renewed. Hence, I have two questions:

1. Is valid Passport mandatory at NY office? (I hear varied opinions, despite what my lawyer says)

2. If I were to go thru trouble of getting new passport, would it gain ANY time advantage of receiving proof of GC? (Meaning I-551 stamp in passport)

I'm counting on other applicants to share their recent experience. I understood your opinion to be: 1. applicant just needs to prove ID, 2. In NJ, stamp at the interview is not available; your GC will reach you by mail in 2 weeks

The admissible part is proven by your birth certificate. They do a biometric so they know who you are. This captures your photo and other personal features. And tge ajudicator reviews your file before they call you. Ssa and uscis acceptddifferent for of ids because uscis has a lot to do with safeguarding national security so they are more stringent than ssa. Just make tge sacrifice and get it. Its needed at least proof that you have applied for one.

I really don't understand the value of UNEXPIRED foreign passport to them. In fact, they expect you to continue residing in the country - so that Foreign Passport, to be used for future travel, seems totally out of context...

As to showing who you are at the interview: expired passport, originals of all Birth Certificates, Marriage Cert, custody orders, DL, EAD, EBT, police certificate with pic/prints, biometrics submitted months in advance...not enough??
