What are the normal things or the expected things they'll ask during an average naturalization interview? I know everyone is going to be a little different, I'm just curious about what my wife should be ready for.

Looking around online, it seems like they just review your N-400, verify the info, and do the civics/english test. A couple of people we know that's went through it make it sound like you're getting the third degree about every little detail of your marriage and life.

The only thing she should need to know are the questions about history and government. The rest of the interview is nothing but a long conversation with the interviewing officer. Nothing over which to lose sleep. She will be fine. Most foreigners know more about American history than we do ourselves.

My main interview consisted of only 6 questions. Prior to that, I was asked to read a line. And to also write an answer to a question. Waiting for the interview itself was longer than the actual interview. Then I was told to come back for the oath taking ceremony in the afternoon.

Typical interview

Person gets up early , rechecks all the documents they are going to bring, checks the answer to the civics test , checks the appointment time, Leaves early, sits down fidgets, rechecks papers work, check watch, looks at door, fidgets more.

Officer comes out , calls you in , flips through your file, greets you and swears you in, asks you several questions for civics test, tells you a decision can't be made at this time and you leave

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

That is kind of personalized. They will ask you if you have traveled outside the US since you filed, if you have any new crimes. Some of the chit chat is to see if you really understand English. Anything that came up during your background investigation will be mentioned. They may ask if you have something that was a little light in your N400 package. We filed before the tax year and they asked for the current years forms.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

What I'm looking for is what sort of stuff do they get into/question before the civics exam? What ground do they cover, how deep and detailed do they dig?

This is my interview experience: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/412738-n-400-april-2013-filers/?p=6381814
