I would think bringing her things as airline baggage. She might get two for free. And more for around 70 each. Sometimes they let some slide. Like a duffel or something.

If she has a lot of stuff, especially heavy things, you may consider shipping (ie actually on a ship, getting a part container). We did that, but we had 2 kids and 2 adult's stuff to ship. Takes about 3 months to arrive, maybe more from your country, but much cheaper than excess bagage.

I'm not sure about that. I heard Chinese people shipped things by boat. I tried to find a shipper from Nanning to USA . And a box about 40 lbs. was 800 bucks from Guangzhou. I'm guessing its the truck freight to get it from Nanning to Guangzhou. I suspect ocean cities are cheaper.

The more stuff you ship, the cheaper shipping by boat becomes. This is because there are a lot of fixed costs (customs, etc) involved with shipping by boat.

As an example, I shipped around 600 lbs and paid $2500. It was nice though, because after I filled out the forms they sent someone to load it from my old house and unload it again at my new house.

I don't have a lot of stuff to ship (relatively speaking) so I'm going to be bringing three 50lb suitcases ($280 extra if I fly United from Singapore) and ship the rest of my stuff (clothes I won't need right away, books, etc) by a shipping company. I ditto what the poster above said about the rate going down the more you ship. Most companies charge an obscene amount of money to ship anything less than 30kg. The cheapest quote I've gotten so far is from sevenseasworldwide, for 30kg (about $170). I can't attest to the quality though - will update if I end up using them.

Flying to Seattle on 6 May 2014!

I couldn't afford the shipping costs to bring much... I carried three suitcases with me on the plane so I only had to pay one 'excess baggage' fee, and I sent a few boxes of stuff through the regular mail. But I ended up leaving a lot of stuff 'back home' that I really wished I'd got to keep.
