People who want to hate muslims will hate muslims, those that can differentiate between muslims and terrorist will continue to do so. I think the idea was to juxtapose what terrorists did against what muslims are but expecting an intelligent response to that is probably extreme wishful thinking so yes it was an extremely bad idea if the end result is meant to be a reduction in prejudice against every day folks who practice the muslim religion.

Look, just saying, if "Muslims" were being advised by a PR company...... They would suggest picking a different day.

I don't disagree, I was just trying to find a reason why someone would think it was a good idea if they were not trying deliberately to be antagonistic. That's the only thing I could come up with.

I would have been like Japanese having a celebration on Pearl Harbor Day back in the 40 and 50's.

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

This is a Daily Mail article, btw, I wouldn't rely on it being an accurate portrayal of the facts.

Do you think if the Japanese in America decided to try to improve their image in the US back in the 1940's that doing it on December 7 in Hawaii would have helped their cause?

Doing what? Celebrating? However misguided these muslims are, and I take this Daily Mail article with a huge pinch of salt by the way, they are not advocating any form of celebration.

I give up. If you can't follow the analogy I have nothing more to add.

I think they are trying to bring to light that the actions of those few on the plane weren't speaking for the millions of Muslims that live here in peace. I would wager doing this on another day in lieu to 9/11 would be more effective though.

Yeah, you're the only ones.

Why pick that day? To get the most attention?

If someone commits a horrible crime, the ONLY time religion is brought into question, is if the person is Muslim.

"Oppressive language does more than represent violence; it is violence; does more than represent the limits of knowledge; it limits knowledge." -Toni Morrison

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.

christianity gets glove treatment. nobody stays away from christianity because of jim jones. nobody believes the majority of christians are money grubbing sex fiends because of jimmy swaggart. there are plenty of people that believe that terrorism is the main artery of islam - not so many believe that warmongering capitalism is the main artery of christianity.

That's because if people blamed Christianity, they'd be implicating themselves. Don't certain factions of Muslims blame other factions of Muslims for all the problems in the world? People want to segregate a group in a way they can neatly explain away all the ills of the world. Its human nature.

There is a fair amount of Christian bashing. I do it myself sometimes. I hate proselytizers.

I do it too sometimes when I get frustrated. I don't think we're in the majority though.
