Don't over do the submission of many photos (which are secondary evidence), at the expense of any primary evidence.

What would be good examples of primary evidence be?

other evidence could be copies of plane tickets, boarding passes. passport stamps. hotel receipts, money exchange receipts, engagement ring receipt ( if there is one, not necessary) etc...

We lived 20 minutes away by car until now (I just moved back to the US) so there are no plane tickets to show that I've visited her. We did go on a couple of trips together, but how would boarding passes or plane tickets prove anything more than the stamps in our passports?

We, unfortunately, don't have any receipts from hotels.

I do have money exchange receipts from when I sent money to my US account from Japan, but how does this help prove that I've met my fiance? Isn't that what we're trying to prove at the I-129F stage?

No engagement ring yet. Working on that!!!

Any other ideas??

Thanks again everyone for all the information!

I submitted my photos in a Ziploc. My petition was returned because it was missing a signature, but USCIS had already arranged everything, and my Ziploc had been tossed and the photos put in a plain manilla envelope.

USCIS will tear your petition apart and re-organize it as they want. Don't waste time making everything into a perfect scrapbook.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Another question:

I read that when I submit everything it should be fastened together with ACCO type clips and that it should be TOP bound.

Does that mean that I should hole-punch my documents?! I don't feel very good about punching holes in any official documentation.

How did everyone here submit their forms?

Thanks always!!

It is simply a personal preference......

My first petition I did the ACCO fasteners. This one I did not. I used the clips to hold the major sections together and one big clip to hold the entire submission.

YMMV

Again, you don't have to do that. They'll take care of it for you. I'd say just put your stuff in an envelope or a folder and call it good.

Tip:

Use Q18 to describe in some detail of how you met in the required 2 year period that established the relationship. This is where you get the chance to let them know that you only lived 20 minutes apart so therefore no travel by aircraft. The evidence you then submit should support those details. Perhaps documenation showing that you did only live 20 minutes apart. Evidence of any trips made together, all that you can muster. What one should be aiming for is creating an image in the minds eye of the adjudicator......a complete picture. Look outside the box for evidence that shows you both in the same place at the same time. Each case is different and one should submit evidence accordingly, not just rely on the standard unofficial list.

Good advice to "look outside the box". I had a friend (or 2) look over my application before I sent it. The first friend would say, they don't care about that - and I'd take it out if it was just +++ too much material (especially on question 18 of how we know each other.

You can show your plane tickets that prove you flew to your fiance's country as evidence and write in your letter that you lived close. I showed the certificate that I received after working in Brasil and used that for evidence that we were living in the same city.

I also used a ziploc bag for my pictures and ADDCO fasteners. I hole punched my papers at the top (2 holes) and that made it easy for my documents to be "read" like a book - I think. It also kept everything together and in order (I used a separate cover letter for proof of having met in the past 2 years AND for proof of ongoing relationship).

We were approved quicky and without RFEs so I think things were organized and easy to read through.

adam, if you lived in Japan, you probably have a copy of a lease, or a student housing area (or something similar). Basically, you want to put yourself in the same place as your fiancée.

Passport stamps, boarding passes, bank statements (showing location of withdrawals), receipts, basically anything that is a 'paper trail' that puts you and she in the same place counts as primary evidence. Photos, e-mails, phone records, etc, are generally secondary. You're not going to have an a priori logical proof, but that's not what's needed. Think of it like a probability, or painting a picture in their head: does it look like this couple has met and intends to marry? Is that the best explanation of the data in this petition?

I printed 4 photos ($0.97 at Rite-Aid) and put them in a Ziploc bag. Then I stapled the bag to a plain sheet of paper. C'est ça. I just put the entire petition in an envelope neatly. No holes or fasteners.

I assume xeroxing the foreign fiancee's passport would work just as well as far as passport stamp evidence?

I did that for one of my fiance's visits here (along with two photos). But I documented 3 other visits as well.
