Hi there.

My fiance and I are getting married on saturday, I am preparing the AOS/EAD/AP package that i will mail as soon as i get the wedding certified certificate. I have read the guides on VJ as well as the forms instructions but i still have a few questions.

- Should i send all three applications together or seperatly? I am als not sure about the adress. Is it the same as for the K1?

- Some documents are asked for the three applications (like mariage certificate, I94 etc...), do i give 3 copies each time?

- Do i put my new name (i am dropping my maiden name for my husband's name) on the forms even though i haven't changed name yet with social security (i already have a SSN from a previous F1 visa). Do i have to wait for EAD before changing my name and SS card or do i do it before sending the AOS package?

Also i called the DMV about getting a drivers license in my state (illinois) and they don't need me to have my green card but just my SSN, passport or BC, 2 proofs of residence (i have an electric bill under my name already and i can bring someone above 18 with an illinois ID to fill a form to certify that i live in Illinois).

I am legally able to drive for a year on my french license along with the international drivers license (not mandatory in illinois)

Also when i was a F1 student i got a drivers license in the state i was studying (Arkansas) without having to take any exam. However it expired when i was in france during the long wait to get the K1 visa (october 2012). I guess i cannot renew it since i no longer live in arkansas and illinois requires me to take the written and driving tests which sucks. Do you thin the illinois dmv has any records of my previous arkansas license and it could make me skip the tests?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Lola

The applications go in the same package, to the same place. It is NOT the same as the K-1 place. Check for the address in the I-485 instructions.

Each app. is separate, but you will find that they all do not ask for a marriage license or I-94. They do all ask for photos, though.

Use your married name, if that is the name you want. The SSA doesn't "own" your name. USCIS will accept your marriage cert as a valid name change document.

Don't know about the DLs.

It's not vague. Sorry to not just tell you but if you missed that then there are many other things you may have missed. I'm trying to help you double check everything.

Hint: It starts on page 5 of the instructions.

All that stuff in there is important to read.

It goes to the Chicago lockbox.

Use your married name, if not it would cost money to change it in the future from your green card and etc.

And you need copies of your i-94 both sides, marriage certificate copies (certified copies preferable), passport copies, visa copies..... can't remember what else.

Good luck with your application.

I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

I don't have the paper I94, but the electronic one that you get online. So there is only one side. I hope they accept that.

Do i give 3 mariage certificates then?

No it is vague... they give a lot of overlapping information in a few pages and after reading everything you don't know where you are anymore. Honestly i don't know what is the difference between the chicago and phoenix lockbox

Start on page 5, then read that it says something like, "All the people who filed in the following categories file in Chicago" Then is lists the categories... and it gives the address on page 6.

If you mean the question about 3 marriage certificates, then that is a no. The I-485 requires a copy of your certified marriage certificate. The I-765 and I-131 do not.
