Thanks God I finally made it, I arrived here in Hawaii yesterday using K1 Visa everything went smooth with the immigration they didn't ask for anything else aside from the packet and the X-ray CD.

Now that the long wait is finally over for me and my fiance, we are now planning for our wedding late next month, but my question is, is it better to file my SSN right away or wait after getting married? I know that I need to file SSN before the I-94 expires which is the arrival and departure record (90 days) but I want to know which way to goidea9dv.gif .

Thank you very much:)

Congratulations and welcome to the US! I can't tell you which way is better but I want to share my experience to you and hopefully it can help. I applied SSN a week after our marriage, before I-94 expires as well. When I went to SSA here in Vallejo, CA with all my documents and our marriage certificate with me, the SSA officer said I am not allowed to get my SSN anymore since my status when I entered the US was single and now married. So what he suggested was to come back right after I get my ead/aos card. I asked two questions: 1. Why is that I have read online that it is fine to apply after marriage so as to use my husband's surname already? 2. Will it matter that by the time my I-94 will already be expired? The officer said, it's case to case basis according to state and expired I-94 won't matter at all since by the time I have to come back, my status will already be adjusted as permanent resident. So now I am still waiting for my aos/ead approval before going back to SSA.

Hello TatTot,

Thank you so much for your quick response it's very helpful. Well I guess based on your experienced I will just go ahead and file my SSN next week so I will not encounter any problem. By the way did they give you I-94? I didn't receive any after immigration upon arrival to US aside from the stamp in my passport.

Thanks!

No biggie ;) I-94 should be attached on your passport. It's like a small card stapled on it. You need your I-94 when you apply your AOS.

Aloha! Welcome to US!

I'll be arriving on Oahu next week. So, they asked you for the X-ray? I don't have a Xray CD, just a Xray sheet, or whatever it's called. I guess I have to have it on my carry on? It's pretty big...

Oh really? I don't have I-94, the immigration officer didn't give me any he just gave my passport back and that's it. I was wondering if I can download it online.

Hi, thank you so much. Yes, you need to have the Xray CD handy because the Immigration officer will take that upon arrival to the US/port of entry. In my case, they didn't even ask for my X-ray sheet. It's not big, just a regular size of CD.

I don't think so, not anymore at least. Someone else can certainly correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi h_m, so you mean I can just go ahead and print our my I-94?

I believe so, but again someone else can certainly correct me if I'm wrong.
