Impatient wife and damaged passport, passport submit for VISA issue

I am sick to my stomach right now, after a long process we finally got the approval for my wife to get her CR1 visa from Gunagzhou. My wive got an email back stating her passport photo was damaged and she needed to submit a new passport. Some idiot stapled her passport through her face in the photo (the only other person who had her passport other then me was the IRS so I blame them). The VO reviewed her passport and stated that she needed to get a replacement. My wife was impatient and went to the passport office and requested a new passport, stating that her previous passport was lost. She now got back her previous passport and has her new passport with a different passport number.

I feel so sick right now because I don't know what to do. How can we resolve this issue, her passport states that it was issued to replace the previous passport number. Will we have a problem if submitting the new passport being that the number is different?

We are so close but yet so far away.

I am thinking you found the lost passport and will submit a copy of it with the newly updated one and bypass all the questionables ;)

Yes but the issue date maybe of concern because she went to get it reissued last month, around the 20th I believe and she got back the old passport last week, Friday I believe. So I just worry about the dates jiving. She needs a lesson in patience but however this is not the time to learn it being we are so far away.

so the damaged passport had the visa stamp? if so, then you need another visit to the embassy and a new stamp

maybe someone else will chime in.. but doesn't sound like it is a big deal without having the stamp in it

Correct the previous passport did not have the stamp because she had a damaged picture and the VO was returning the passport so she could get a replacement. I might be paranoid but I am concerned that if the VO gets the new passport, new passport number saying it was reissued for the previous passport number, they could question why the new number. The issue date was before the day she got back the passport, a few days earlier I believe.

I hope I am just making a big issue out of a minor event but I don't want this event to sabotage the marathon.

Since it was the Consulate that demanded a new passport, they probably won't think twice about the numbers being different.

I had to submit her passport so I could get a tax number for her. We have filed jointly for two years now

I submitted a copy (verified by the US Embassy as identical to the original) since I did not want to send my passport in. I am sorry this happened to you. :(

I would not worry about different numbers. Different passports have different numbers. I have not seen a country where two passports will have a same number yet. If the Embassy asked for a new one, bring them the new one and that's it. smile.png

She will ge in the US soon, congrats!

I second the information of: We lost her passport, applied for a new one (hence the new passport number). We found the old one (with the staple) and now have two. Submit both along with a letter explaining that your wife was being proactive about the situation even though you now have two, the embassy will probably ask you to appear with the new one to get it stampped. Sounds legit to me. Lost passport = new passport number as someone who found the lost one could use it for fraud and you wanted to protect yourself and your wife.

Congrats on being almost done. You're so close! Just smile and let all those roll off and you'll get to enjoy your wife's company soon.
