However, neither apply in this situation because this is an EZ form and joint/co sponsors aren't allowed for the EZ form.

Even my clarification was not totally accurate. All questions are FOR everyone. How you answer, depends on the specific circumstances. I should have said that the question is answered with 1, when the sponsor is married but sponsoring somebody other than their spouse.

When a person is married and sponsoring their spouse, they leave it blank or answer with 0 BECAUSE the spouse is already counted. A similar issue arises when sponsoring a child or stepchild. You do not count the child as a child if the affidavit is being executed in their behalf. That's what is meant by "Don't count anybody twice."
