Hi. My girlfriend and I are totally new to this immigration thing, or at least I (the guy) am. I'm in my 30's and was born in the Midwest and now live in the DC area. I'm a biochemist and I do research in the biomedical field. My girlfriend is the one immigrating here from Thailand. She is beautiful, amazing, and awesome and I am so lucky to have met her. She is in her late 20's and grew up outside of Bangkok. She came here to study and is exceeding in her classes. She has a strong interest in early child development.

We met in 2011 and are getting married in July 2013, which is like 3 weeks away. Things are pretty surreal and exciting for us. We are doing the small civil ceremony at the courthouse in Annapolis Maryland and then pushing the Green Card paperwork out the door ASAP. Then hopefully we can travel after everything is official. I'm sure traveling has been difficult for a lot of people on this site, and that's no exception for my girlfriend. She hasn't been home in 3 years to see her family and I have never met them in person (we've done the Skype thing...does that count?). So hopefully everything goes smoothly so we can do a little traveling to Thailand.

Anyway, this actually seems like a legit site and a lot of our questions were answered by some knowledgeable people. We figured we'd join and hopefully gain a little more knowledge about the application process, and try to help others out too.

Welcome aboard ship.

It appears she came on a Student Visa and then you met, fell in love. Were you communicating before that time and talking of Marridge.

Meeting the Parents is Not a Requirement weather Skype or in person.

The Great Advantage is she is already here in the US

This paper work you are going to push out the door. I wonder what type of initial docs that will include?

Are you aware of what will happen when you return to Thailand with her. I mean in our culture what the family will expect? Sin sot for example. Will you do another wedding Thai style to make the family happy?

I suggest you find a copy of Thailand Fever on Amazon if you don't know enough about Thai culture so you can avoid any misunderstandings or confusion. Of course its possible your G F has explained all of this to you but we see many cases here where this is a huge mystery and creates many problems. No one here wants that to happen.

I agree 100% with what Ning is saying especially if you have never been to Thailand. This is a great site to find and ask questions. Welcome to the journey.
