All, My wife's Green Card expires Jun 2, Sunday... we haven't received any documents.. The I-751 was recently sent in and we see from USPS, that they Arrived on 28 May..

do we need to worry?

We live on a mexico border town and my wife plays volleyball in Mexico and has games tomorrow and wants to attend.. Should she go? What happens after Jun 2nd? Can she be in trouble?

We were delayed filing because my wife was injured when she returned to Colombia a few months ago and resulted in major expenses which we had to steal money from our Renew Fund..

Anyhow, any help is appreciated...

I suggest she not cross the border into Mexico again after 2 June 2013 until she has the 1 year extension letter in her hand.

IIRC, that will come in 30 to 60 days after filing (but I could be wrong, it might be sooner)

Try yer hardest to get at the border control point headed north, no later than 22:00 CST on Saturday, 1 June 2013.

Feel stupid for asking, but, what is "IIRC"?

If I remember correctly (IIRC) she should get the extension letter a few days after the check is cashed--you can see that can't you? For us back in late February it took 2 days for the check to clear the bank and we had the NOA1 letter in about a week. The Bio appointment was one month after they received the petition. Now we are waiting for the results.

Do not leave the US after the GC expires unless she has the extension letter. I agree with Gowon, why play with fire. You did not file due to financial reasons, but she would still cross into Mexico to play football so close to the expiration of her GC. Remember that CBP does not have to let anybody into the US except for USC and they can detain her and make her life difficult all because of an expiration date on the GC and a bad day for the person she encounters. Now of course she may have no problems even if she travels on Sunday. Unfortunately dealing with CBP is like playing Russian Roulett without knowing how many bullets there are and how many empty chambers there are.

Good luck,

Dave

eyyyyy....whatta shame that you have soccer on my mind...;) Well, glad you actually gotta watch your people play and hey, 2-2 sounds way better than Mexico winning over you, eh? :) Now, of course this depends on which side we ask....Mexicans would not be insulted if they won...quiet rightly, I believe. :)

I have Soccer on my mind as Nigeria and Mexico played an international friendly tonight. 2-2.

well, hard-head is ok,

but does she have soft ankles?

I ask this, specifically, because if she has soft ankles,

is best to drag her by her ankles, headed north, no later than 22:00 CST on 1 June 2013.

Brother Kenny -- don't let her enter Mexico, and until that extension letter arrives, she should carry a photocopy of the I-751 cover-letter AND the check for payment, on her person, without fail.

When the extension letter arrives, she should carry that with her (make copies for safekeeping) until the green card arrives.

If you're concerned about specific dangers regarding her status in the near term, call the Del Rio port. If Mike Perez is still the Port Director, you can be put right through to him. GREAT guy. Explain the situation and ask what he recommends. You might even stop by the port office (if they have visitor parking, which they told me they didn't after the port was rebuilt farther inland), but you might not get past the various levels of agents to talk to Mike Perez directly.

Unrelated: Has United Express (or whatever they call themselves now) canceled all IAH-DRT service? Is there any commercial service in & out of DRT now? What's the scuttlebutt?

Hey Kenny - Good Morning !

Where are ya, and where's the wife ?

Hey all

Thanks for everyones replies.. My wife and I live in Del Rio, Texas...

The Extension Letter arrived... The POE here is very helpful..

We should be good to go.. She is a Volleyball nut, and feels the teams here in Del Rio dont play with the same spirit... So she's involved with a team in Ciudad Acuna and really feels at home,,

Thanks again..

Kenny
