Tacos-for-life for a PlayStation 3

Company barters for a console for the teen center of the Taco Bell Foundation Boys & Girls Club

By Martyn Williams, IDG News Service

November 21, 2006

People have pushed and shoved for it, queued overnight in the rain for it and it's been sold online at great profit. Now the Taco Bell fastfood chain is offering a "lifetime" of tacos in exchange for a PlayStation 3.

The company, which is a division of Yum! Brands, said it will give $12,500 in "Taco Bell Bucks" to anyone who will donate a PlayStation 3. The console will then be given by Taco Ball and its Taco Bell Foundation to the Stanton, California, teen center of the Boys & Girls Club.

The Taco Bell Bucks can be redeemed at participating Taco Bell locations for food. Just how long it would take to work through the credit depends on your appetite but at less than a dollar for a "seasoned beef crunchy taco" it's enough to keep you snacking for a long time.

Anyone interested in taking up the company's offer should send their name, e-mail address and phone number to tacobellnews@tacobell.com. The Taco Bell Bucks will be given to the first person to respond, based on the time the e-mail is received, and send in their PlayStation 3. The deadline is 6 p.m. on Dec. 1. The company didn't specify which of the two versions of the PlayStation 3 console is preferred.

Taco Bell heard of E-bay? You can get one for around a grand.

Those huge bids for them were scams. Not sure how the scam worked but it did involve a hi-jacked e-bay and paypal account. I read about it over on the e-bay forums.

Yeah, all of those bids for those high dollars were from fake accounts. You see all the winning bidders had 0 feedback. I've been registered on ebay with the same account for over nine years and this happens everytime something hot comes out.

The prices settled in right at around a grand.

I'd rather do the tacos. Besides, the Taco Bell company can use that 12.5 taco donation as a tax write off. Trust me, they aren't losing anything on the deal. It's all in the name of "charity."

If I had a PS3 I might trade for the taco bucks, then try to sell the Taco Bucks on eBay for a tidy sum.

Six of one; half a dozen of the other. What's the advantage? Both lead to becoming a fat American.
