I keep reading in other topics that NBC will forward case to local office. How does one find out if that will / has happened? Case status will always say "initial processing", from lockbox stage to NOA2. Any thoughts?

Hey everyone

New to this.

I am awaiting my husband's arrival from India. I tell ya....arguably, THE WORST time of my life - waiting for an email/notification from the USCIS. The time is going by SO slow.

But it is SO good to know that there are others on the same boat as I am. It gives me some strength. Thanks for sharing your experience. :)

Stand-Alone Immediate Relative (IR) I-130, Petition for Alien Relative Effective date: Aug. 15, 2012 all USCIS service centers Field Office with jurisdiction over the petitioner’s place of residence.

"USCIS is implementing these changes using a “date-forward” approach, meaning that any work we received before the effective date indicated above will be completed by the previous location. Work we receive on or after the effective date will be completed by the new location."

As a result of these changes, customers may receive transfer notices, requests for evidence (RFE) notices, notices of decision, or other correspondence from a different USCIS location.

Stand-Alone Immediate Relative I-130s will be transferred from the Service Center to the National Benefits Center (NBC), and then routed to the appropriate Field Office. Customers will receive a notice indicating the case was transferred to the NBC, but that notice will not indicate the final local Field Office location.

Sooooo.....I don't know if that is a good thing or not!!

It's been this way for going on a year now. It just means that instead of I-130s getting processed at service centers like CSC or VSC, they all automatically get routed to NBC where they sit in line for a few months before getting shipped out to their corresponding field office. This could be a good thing or bad thing, depending on what your local office is and how busy it is. You can find out by looking on the USCIS website and putting in your zip code.

Of course, the exception to this rule would be if the USC lives abroad and put their foreign address on the I-130, in which case no field office would have jurisdiction over it and it would stay at NBC for processing and approval.

It's possible, but don't count on it. The vast majority get sent out. A lot of the time they tell you it stayed at NBC, and you don't find out until later that the approval actually came from a local office. They're really finicky about transferring people to Tier 2 reps for some reason, and they're the only people who can tell you if it's been or was transferred. Even they don't seem to want to look to hard most of the time, and you really have to badger them to make them look.

Hello May 2013 Filers!

I am a bit behind in joining the thread - filed our I-130 in early May, and received our NOA with a priority date of May 21 2013. Today is 21 June (for me in Australia) so it's been a month! My husband (who is the US Citizen) and I have lived in Australia since 2004 and we're relocating back to the US to be closer to his family. We have one daughter who is 18 months old and have been married since 2010. Obviously hoping to receive the NOA2 as soon as possible but also very nervous about the next stage! We feel we are going to have some difficulty with the I-864 since my huisband has lived in Australia so long and hasn't earned a salary/filed taxes in the US for almost 9 years! So we'll be doing lots of research about the Affidavit of Support and looking for any tips from anyone else who is in the same situation as us (both petitioner and beneficiary living abroad)! Also, any info on how we can check how the NBC timeframes are going (if ours is to stay at the NBC for processing)?

Thanks everyone!

Ange
