Apparently, your wife's IO doesn't have the slightest idea how large corporations work. Wife works for a large corporation with many hospitals all over the state of Wisconsin. All of her employee records are kept in Milwaukee, the only place where the human resource and the accounting departments are located. And the only place one can call for employee verification, so that is the address we used. If they did call her actual place of employment, would have been redirected to the home office.

Not that the USCIS even looks into employment verification, does make any difference if you are working or not. More than likely, just an off the wall stupid comment made by the IO. If he really cared, would have made corrections to her N-400. With marriage, that IO also has three years of tax returns, but apparently this is a five year where tax returns are not a requirement.

Not worth making an issue out of this, just sit back and wait up to 120 days to get your oath letter. If not, then its time to contact your senators office. A lot easier and cheaper than taking the USCIS to court.

Can only imagine your actual concern is that your ten year green cards are about to expire. If they are, can make an infopass appointment to get either an I-94 or an I-551 stamp in your foreign passport. Explain you already applied for US citizenship, if they say no, then you have to apply for another green card.

Always not wise to wait to the last minute.

@NickD, thanks for the input. I agree, it might be just a comment made by IO, but now we are using that to find any reason for "decision cannot be made".

Our GCs are expiring in end of 2014, so still have some time. But, when you say apply for new GC, I am assuming it is renewal, right?

how easy or difficult is to renew GC, any ideas?

Most common reason I heard a decision cannot be made at this time, is become the IO is incompetent to make that decision, has to leave that up to his supervisor to make that decision. Or requesting addition information, did you bring in proof you paid a ten year old parking ticket?

Since both you and your wife applied for the five year, only evidence you need to show is a valid green card. Again sit tight, really don't want to camp out at your mail box, those oath letters should come in.

yes, she had only 1 ticket in 2009 and she mentioned and IO didnt want to see her drivers record or proof of payment. he just said, thats ok.

guess, we just have to wait and hope for the best. thanks for all the help.

so as expected, i got the update that the oath is scheduled, but no changes to my wife's status.... what does it mean, any ideas? she is the one that got "decision cannot be made".

I petitioned for two people, wife and her daughter, all applications were sent in at the same time, but never got a response the same day, or even the same week or month for both of them. Even for biometrics appointments at different dates.

They even misplaced my I-130 for my stepdaughter, causing an additional 45 day delay. That turned out to be good in a way, she wasn't so sure she wanted to come here missing her friends and all that. But that tension of waiting for her green card to come in like her mom's kind of told us she wanted to stay here.

Happy to hear you are deeply concerned about your wife, but give it a few more days.

if the oath scheduled, run with that, ignore anything else unless a new postal mail piece arrives.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

so quick update. went to oath, my wife's officer announces my name before my oath ceremony, to ask whether my wife was there with me. and then he says that he never got time till today to review her file and approve it on the same day when my oath was ... grhhhh.

but he said, he is going to approve the file and she will get the oath letter in mail. all in all, it will be little incovenient to go again for the oath ceremony,, but thats ok.

all's well that ends well.

thank you all. almost done.

Of course they don't have time with all those paid holiday days off, sick leave, and plenty of vacation time. Did work for civil service for a short period of time, couldn't stand the politics, but had to check my calendar everyday, so I wouldn't waste time driving to work for nothing. Doors were locked up. Then those long breaks and lunch periods.
