I sent my petition on April Fool's Day. My fiance hates that word especially when I say that I am fool for her. Probably because fool in Russian has a stronger connotation then in English. The petition is going by UPS Ground and will be there by Thursday. God Bless you! - Jimbo

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Good luck on your new journey!

AZRG<3, thank you for your well wishes and congratulations on your progress in your journey. I have been doing a lot of research but as you can imagine I still have a lot of questions. As you have gone where I wish to go, maybe you can help me.

"K1 PROCESS

NOA1 - 06/01/2012

NOA 2 - 12/06/2012 Approved!

No RFE's"

They will mail me a an NOA1 that is a glorified but important document that i must save that says "we got your documents." Then what? They will issue a RFE (Request for Evidence) if there is any problems or they will issue me an NOA2.

travel.state. gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2994.html#4

1) what are examples of RFEs?

2) Is the NOA2 automatic or what are the grounds they would deny or delay an NOA2?

3) I paid $ 340 in cashier check to the US department of Homeland security, are there anymore fees involved?

travel.state. gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1309.html

" Received by NVC - 12/10/2012

Received by Consulate - 01/04/2013

Received instructions - 01/09/2013"

Ok, I understand that my petition goes to the National Visa Center in Portsmouth, NH.

"USCIS Sent My Immigrant Visa Petition to the NVC. Now What Happens?

If your Priority Date meets the most recent Qualifying Date, the NVC will:

Invoice you for your visa application fees

Collect your visa application and supporting documentation

Hold your visa petition until an interview can be scheduled with a consular officer at a U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate General abroad.

If your Priority Date DOES NOT meet the most recent Qualifying Date, the NVC will notify you and hold your petition until your Priority Date meets the most recent Qualifying Date. The Department of State updates the Qualifying Dates on a monthly basis."

4) It is a K-1 Visa. So there is Priority dates and qualifying dates, do they apply to me?

5) "Invoice you for your visa application fees," is this another $ 350?

6) "Hold your visa petition until an interview can be scheduled with a consular officer at a U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate General abroad," the interview will be in Kiev. Does this mean I schedule an interview with the embassy once I get my NOA2?

7) what are the instructions?

" Scheduled interview / paid MRV fee - 02/14/2013

Interview Date - 03/14/2013 Approved!!

Visa in hand - 3/25/2013"

According to this website:

ukraine.usembassy. gov/fees2.html

Effective June 4, 2010 the Department of State will increase the Machine-Readable Visa (MRV) fee for non-immigrant visas.

The new MRV fee will increase to:

USD $240 for K visa applicants.

the website says I have to pay it at a bank, I thought you pay this at the embassy. I heard that after the interview presuming it is approved you can get your VISA that day, is that possible?

Trying to work this out. It seems so Byzantine

NOA 1 indeed is just a document that says "we cashed your check, your petition is with us", it will also give you a "case number" which you will be able to check your petitions status at the USCIS website.

An RFE can be issued at any time in your journey if the USCIS needs something from you. It can be anywhere from a mispelled last name, to a missing document, or even request more photos of your relationship.

You can never know if you will be issued an RFE until you receive your NOA 2, your NOA 2 basically says that your petition was either approved or denied.

travel.state. gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2994.html#4

1) what are examples of RFEs?

Anything can be an RFE. Check this link out! It will help you

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/4725-the-rfe-master-list/

2) Is the NOA2 automatic or what are the grounds they would deny or delay an NOA2?

Any unaswered RFE or false information can lead to a delay or an automatic denial.

3) I paid $ 340 in cashier check to the US department of Homeland security, are there anymore fees involved?

There shouldn't be anymore fees until you get to the consulate interview stage, you will have to make a payment to the consulate to be able to schedule your interview and a medical exam (required for your interview) that has a cost as well (I can't remember at the top of my head)and any vaccine or extra test they may add. It's different in every country, check your countrys portal.

Unfortunately I cannot help you with this, all countries are different when it comes to the consulate stage. Our country is Mexico, the NVC just sent the petition to out consulate, we later scheduled our interview, no extra fees. Check your countrys portal for more country specific information.

It depends on the country, in Mexico the MRV fee had to be paid at a bank, then when your payment is with the consulate, you will be able to schedule your interview date. Check your portal :)

I believe K-1's are not issued on the same day as your interview (in case you are approved) anymore. Usually there is a weeks wait.

Trying to work this out. It seems so Byzantine

Don't worry, that is why VJ is here to help solve any questions. Good luck! :star:

Is there anything to that old adage of the squeaky wheel gets the oil? I am thinking I should call them everyday. Is that sound course of action?

Am I serious about what? Sure if you are past the 5-6 month point get squeaky. As for me. I am waiting on NAO1 so there is nothing to get squeaky about.
